UTME candidate who committed suicide over low score gets admission
Opesusi Faith Timilehin a 19-year-old girl, tragically committed suicide on Monday after apparently getting 190 in the recently conducted Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Timilehin, originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State, was living with her older sister in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State, at the time of the incident.
It was gathered that Timilehin ingested ‘Push Out’, a rodenticide, shortly before visiting her sister’s office, where she asked for palm oil to relieve the pain she was experiencing.
Her strange behaviour raised no alarms until she fainted, causing her sister to seek assistance.
On her way to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, she allegedly admitted to taking poison at home.

Medical officials at the hospital verified her death immediately after she arrived.
Timilehin received an email from JAMB around 30 minutes after her death was confirmed, offering her a temporary admission to the microbiology degree she had applied for.
A close family source revealed that Timilehin had previously sat for the UTME in 2024 and expressed disappointment that her latest score was lower than her previous result.
“She said her last year’s score was better than this one. She had hoped for a better result and was devastated,” the source said.
Timileyin was described as “gentle and humble” by neighbours who expressed outrage at the circumstances surrounding her death, directing anger at what they saw as a flawed admissions process that failed to provide timely feedback to candidates.
