Venezuela Condemns US Strikes on Residential Areas
Venezuela has accused the United States of targeting residential areas in a series of strikes early Saturday and announced a massive deployment of military forces in response.
In a video statement shared on social media, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López said the “invading” US forces struck civilian areas using missiles and rockets fired from combat helicopters, including zones near Fuerte Tiuna, the country’s largest military complex south of Caracas, as well as in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.
“The US has desecrated our soil, going so far as to strike residential areas populated by civilians,” Lopez said, describing the attack as vile and cowardly.

AFP journalists reported that explosions thundered across Caracas around 2:00 a.m. (0600 GMT), shaking neighborhoods and leaving several areas without electricity. Additional detonations were heard in other cities, with the sound of aircraft overhead continuing for nearly an hour.
Lopez added that Venezuela would undertake a comprehensive military response, deploying all available land, air, naval, riverine, and missile capabilities to defend the nation. Authorities are also gathering information on casualties and the injured from the attack.
“We strongly condemn this attack, which flagrantly violates the United Nations Charter and international law,” Lopez said.
The incident has escalated tensions between Caracas and Washington, marking a major confrontation amid ongoing concerns over regional security and sovereignty.
