We are not aware about Finidi’s resignation

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has reacted to the news about resignation of embattled Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, saying the body is not aware.

The coach resigned after the NFF announced Thursday that it would hire a foreign technical adviser for the Eagles, after their poor outings in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

The NFF boss gave this position in a reply to a WhatsApp message sent to Gusau by The Punch to confirm if Finidi had resigned.

He reportedly replied, “Not yet aware.

The Eagles have managed just three points from a possible 12, and currently in the fifth position in the six-team Group C, which has put their qualification hopes in jeopardy.

Finidi has overseen only two games as Eagles coach, drawing against South Africa and losing to Benin Republic. This drew the ire of Nigerian football fans.

He is said to be livid that the NFF leadership met with the sports minister two days ago, but failed to mention that players reported late to the camp and that they (NFF) did nothing to mobilise Nigerians in Ivory Coast to support the Eagles in last Monday’s match with Benin Republic.
