We eliminated 108 terrorists, 19 vehicles, 44 motorcycles recovered in one week – DHQ
In a significant operation over the past week, the Nigerian military has successfully neutralized 108 terrorists and secured the release of 214 kidnapped individuals across various regions of the country.
This was disclosed by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, in a statement released on Friday in Abuja. According to Buba, troops also detained 204 suspected terrorists and other criminals.
The operation led to the recovery of 66 different weapons and 4,087 rounds of assorted ammunition, including sophisticated arms such as a DShK heavy machine gun, two general-purpose machine guns, an RPG launcher, and 37 AK-47 rifles.
Additionally, the military seized four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, two gun trucks, three fabricated rifles, and various other firearms and communication equipment.
A significant amount of ammunition, including 2,362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo and 699 rounds of 7.62mm NATO rounds, was also retrieved.
Among other items recovered were 19 vehicles, 44 motorcycles, three mobile phones, and cash totaling N4.9 million.

In the North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, the military neutralized 47 terrorists, arrested 18 suspects, and rescued 130 hostages. During the same period, 622 terrorists, including 90 adult males, 182 adult females, and 350 children, surrendered to the authorities. An airstrike conducted on August 2 targeted a newly discovered Boko Haram/ISWAP hideout and IED factory in the Mandara Mountains, leading to the destruction of the facility and the elimination of several terrorists.
In the North Central region, troops under Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized 13 insurgents, detained 57 violent extremists, and rescued 36 hostages. Meanwhile, in the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji’s forces eliminated 15 terrorists, arrested 22, and freed 27 hostages across Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
A successful airstrike in Katsina State also targeted the enclave of notorious terrorist leader Kamilu Burazu, resulting in the destruction of their camp and logistics.
Under Operation Whirl Punch, military efforts in Kaduna, Niger, and Kogi States led to the elimination of eight terrorists, the arrest of 22 suspects, and the rescue of 12 hostages.
The air component also conducted a raid that destroyed the camp of a terrorist leader known as Buhari in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe troops recovered 1.13 million liters of stolen crude oil, 228,770 liters of illegally refined diesel, and significant quantities of kerosene and petrol. They also destroyed 487 illegal refining sites, seized 32 boats, and apprehended 32 suspects involved in oil theft and other criminal activities.
In the South East, Operation UDO KA forces neutralized five terrorists, arrested 12 violent extremists, and rescued four hostages.
All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and action, Maj.-Gen. Buba concluded.
