Wike Declares No Second Chance for Rivers Governor Fubara Over Leadership Failures

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that there will be “no second chance” for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of failing to provide effective governance and maintain critical political relationships.

Wike made the remarks on Friday during a thank-you visit to the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, addressing supporters he described as the “Renewed Hope Family.” He stressed that any leader who cannot work with local government chairmen, members of the state House of Assembly, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders lacks the capacity to govern effectively.

The former Rivers State governor criticised Fubara for not honouring agreements reached during a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the governor’s leadership as inadequate for the state. Wike added that financial resources alone cannot resolve governance issues, noting that commitment and grassroots engagement are essential for political success.

“This is why Rivers State cannot be led by a governor who fails to maintain relationships with key stakeholders or honour agreements,” Wike said. “There cannot be two captains in one ship. Whoever assures you all is well when it isn’t, is wrong.”

The statement underscores the ongoing political rivalry in Rivers State, which has seen factions within the PDP accuse Fubara of deception and failure to implement peace agreements facilitated by the federal government. Analysts say the dispute positions Rivers as a key battleground ahead of the 2027 general elections, with control of the state influencing broader regional politics.
