Woman sets 86-year-old mother ablaze in Ondo
In a tragic incident in Ondo City, a 45-year-old woman named Abiodun has been accused of setting her 86-year-old mother on f!re. The event occurred in the Ondo West Local Government Area.
Abiodun, also known as ‘Iya Sunday,’ reportedly took this drastic action believing her mother was the cause of her misfortunes.
According to an eyewitness, Sola Oladele, the incident happened early Friday morning.
Oladele recounted, “I went to my mother’s house around 4 am and sat outside. When it was 5 am, I called out my mother from the house. Immediately after she came out, not knowing what was happening, I poured petrol on her body and set her on fire.”

Abiodun’s actions were allegedly influenced by a pastor and another woman who both claimed that her mother was responsible for her problems. “I burnt my mother because of what I heard from the pastor and the woman, that I can only be free from bondage when my mother is dead,” she explained.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident and reported that the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries on Saturday. As a result, Abiodun will face murder charges.
