Speakers of Yobe and Plateau state houses of assembly will not be returning to the legislative houses.
Speaker Ahmed Mirwa Lawan of the Yobe House of Assembly and his counterpart in Plateau, Yakubu Sanda, lost the assembly elections conducted on Saturday.
The two speakers, who are both of the All Progressives Congress, lost their seats to candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party.
In Yobe, Mirwa Lawan lost his seat to Lawan Musa, a 35-year-old candidate of the PDP for the Nguru II Constituency.
Returning Officer of the election, Dr Habib Muhammad, who announced the results on Sunday, said Musa scored 6,648 votes to defeat the Yobe Speaker who got 6,466 votes.
In Plateau State, Yakubu Sanda (APC) was defeated by Mrs Happiness Matthew Akawu (PDP) for the Pengana State Constituency seat.
The PDP candidate scored 9,926 votes to defeat the Speaker who polled 7,936 votes. While the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) scored 6,721 votes, the Labour Party got 1,028 votes.
