Zamfara: Troops Overrun Bandit Camp, Kill Scores in Major Raid

Nigerian troops have killed scores of bandits during a major military raid on a notorious bandit camp in Zamfara State, dealing another blow to criminal networks operating in the North-West.

The operation, carried out under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, followed credible intelligence indicating that a large number of armed bandits had gathered in a forest hideout within Maru Local Government Area to plan fresh attacks on nearby communities.

According to military sources, ground troops supported by air assets of the Nigerian Air Force launched a coordinated assault on the camp in the early hours of the operation. The troops encountered stiff resistance, leading to a fierce gun battle.

During the encounter, scores of bandits were neutralised, while several others sustained injuries and fled into surrounding bushes. The troops reportedly overran and destroyed the camp, setting structures and logistics points ablaze to prevent its future use.

Military sources said air interdiction missions were also conducted to track and neutralise fleeing bandits and disrupt any attempt at regrouping.

No casualty figures were given for the troops, but the military described the operation as highly successful, noting that it forms part of sustained efforts to dismantle bandit strongholds, degrade their fighting capacity, and restore security across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

The raid is one of several recent offensives targeting armed groups responsible for kidnappings, killings, and attacks on rural communities in the region, as security forces intensify pressure on bandit leaders and their networks.
