Defence Minister General Musa Set to Join APC

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd.), has indicated that he is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that could reshape political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a recent media interaction, General Musa said he is “in transition” and expects to formally align with the ruling APC in the near future. While clarifying that he has not yet completed the process of joining the party, the Defence Minister described the move as a natural progression, given his working relationship with the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

General Musa expressed strong support for President Tinubu, stating that the President deserves the backing of all loyal party members to successfully deliver on his mandate. He added that his expected entry into the APC would be aimed at contributing to the party’s goals, particularly in the areas of national security, stability, and governance.

The Defence Minister, who previously served as Chief of Defence Staff, noted that his transition into partisan politics follows years of service at the highest level of Nigeria’s security architecture. Political observers believe his move could strengthen the APC’s security credentials and further consolidate the party’s influence as preparations for future elections gather momentum.

General Musa’s anticipated defection comes amid ongoing political realignments across the country, with several prominent figures reportedly positioning themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
