Missing Ijebu-Ode Chief Imam found dead in car

About 24 hours after he was declared missing, Chief Imam of Atiba community, a suburb of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Sheikh Mushafau Bakare, has been found dead in his newly acquired Highlander Toyota jeep.

His was discovered in the Toyota Highlander around Ikangba area in the Odogbolu Local Government Area by police attached to Obalende Divisional headquarters, Ijebu Ode.

The cleric was said to be in his 60s.

The Nation reports that before the discovery, children and relatives of the cleric as well as some Muslim faithful had mounted a search party for him since he was declared missing on Wednesday.

His phone was said to have continued ringing when he was being searched without anyone picking it up.

The cleric was laid to rest on Thursday at the community according to Islamic rites.

London sword attack leaves British-Nigerian teenager dead

A 14-year-old boy, Daniel Anjorin, was fatally attacked with a sword in London on Tuesday while on his way to school.

The British-Nigerian student attended Bancroft’s private school. A 36-year-old man, who was not previously known to police, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The attack began when the suspect crashed a van into a house fence, injuring a 33-year-old man, then stabbed him in the neck.

He then attacked a 35-year-old man, causing arm lacerations, before killing Anjorin. Two police officers were seriously injured while apprehending the suspect, who was eventually detained 22 minutes after the initial call. The attack is not believed to be terror-related.

The independent school attended by Anjorin said in a statement Wednesday that they had been left in “profound shock and sorrow” at the pupil’s death.

“He was a true scholar, demonstrating commendable dedication to his academic pursuits. His positive nature and gentle character will leave a lasting impact on us,” Bancroft’s, in Woodford Green, near Hainault, said.

Lagos uncovers 86 rooms under Ikoyi bridge where tenants pay N250,000 rent

A bridge in Lagos beneath which 86 rooms were located have been discovered, authorities in the State have disclosed.

The 86 partitioned rooms, sized 10×10 and 12×10, were found under the Dolphin Estate Bridge, Ikoyi, on Lagos Island.

The tenants sheltering in the makeshift wooden accommodation are said to be paying N250,000 a year.

Lagos State’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the disclosure on Wednesday.

Sharing the development in a post on X on Wednesday, along with videos, Wahab disclosed that all structures, including a container used for various illegal activities, have been removed from beneath the Dolphin Estate bridge.

He stated that the clearance exercise was carried out by the enforcement team of the Lagos State’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources had successfully removed.

Sharing videos he wrote, “A total number of 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10, and a container used for different illegal activities were discovered under the Dolphin Estate Bridge.

“They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources”

A Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, further confirmed the eviction of squatters from beneath the bridge towards Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi over illegal settlement and environmental violations.

Rotimi-Akodu disclosed that 23 individuals were arrested during the eviction, which was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI on Tuesday.

He wrote, “Squatters dwelling under the bridge leading from inward Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi were evicted today Tuesday, 30th of April, 2024 by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps LAGESC (aka KAI).

“These people created their illegal settlement under the bridge, thereby exposing the critical infrastructure to impending destruction. 23 persons have so far been arrested and MoE/KAI will continue to monitor the place. The law will take its course.”

He also confirmed that the bridge has hitherto housed 86 rooms, partitioned into 10×10 and 12×10 with squatters paying an average rent of N250,000 per annum.

“Continuation of the removal of abode under Dolphin bridge. 11 more persons were arrested. It is important to note that wood materials were used to construct the shelters, some occupants used gas cylinders, and some had stored fuel for their generators, these are recipes for disaster,” he added

Terrorists release video of kidnapped palace servant, others in Zamfara

A servant of the Emir of Zamfara named Alhaji Buhari (Shamaki) in a video has pleaded with the monarch to ensure their release from kidnappers’ den.

Last week, bandits raided the palace of the Emir, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Bunu, killing three persons and abducting some locals.

According to residents, the bandits raided the town at 10pm on Wednesday and targeted the mansion of Nasarawa State’s former Military Administrator, Colonel Bala Muhammad Mande (rtd).

The Emir was, however, taken away by security agents to Gusau.

In the video, the abducted servant and other men were seen with eyes blocked with pieces of cloths and surrounded by the bandits, while one of them (Shamaki) urged the Emir to show compassion and help in their release.

Invoking the name of Allah for mercy and support, he said they are over 600 individuals in need of assistance to go back home and continue providing food for their families.

He said, “We are calling on the Emir of Zamfara to have sympathy on us, in the name of Allah, and help our release.

“We are just looking for what to eat and feed our families. Even if one has nothing, waking up with something to eat and feed one’s family is enough.

“I am your Shamaki, Alhaji Buhari. Please and please, Your Highness, help us, your people who are in need of your help. We are over 600 in the bush.”
