Kenyan government in a latest affidavit filed in defence of the suit filed by leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu in the country hasasserted that there was no immigration record of Kanu’s departure from Kenya after his last arrival on May 12, 2021.

This was contained in a statement, yesterday, by Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Kanu and Kanunta Kanu, his brother.

“In the affidavit ‘drawn up and filed’ by Kenya Attorney General and deposed to in Nairobi, Kenya on February 10, Kenya government attached Kanu’s arrival and departure record from Kenya from July 17, 2019 to May 12, 2021 when he last entered Kenya.

“Paragraph 12 of the sffidavit stated that ‘it is evident from the schedule below that since July 17, 2019, the said Nwannekaenyi Nnamdi Kenny Okwu-Kanu has visited and departed Kenya on several occasions’.

“Paragraph 13 of the affidavit states that ‘from the above travel history, it is evident that his last arrival date was May 12, 2021 and there is no evidence exhibited to prove that he thereafter left the country’.

“Paragraph 14 of the affidavit stated that ‘I am not privy to his (Kanu’s) arrest, detention or extradition’.

“It is pertinent to note that this affidavit, having been ‘drawn up and filed’ by Kenya attorney general is the clearest official confirmation yet from the government of Kenya that what happened to Kanu in Kenya amounts to crime, both in Nigeria, Kenya and under international law.

“With this latest development, Kanu’s ordeal in Kenya has turned a new corner where domestic and international criminal indictments will lie against the persons that directly or indirectly participated in this high crime. It has gone beyond extraordinary rendition,” the family said in the statement.

Ex-FCMB manager sentenced to 121-year imprisonment

Justice S. N. Odili of the Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha, Anambra State, has convicted and sentenced a former manager with First City Monument Bank, FCMB, Onitsha branch, Nwachukwu Placidus, to a cumulative 121 years imprisonment.

A statement issued by the anti-graft agency on Saturday said Placidus bagged the jail term for diverting fixed deposit funds of a customer to the tune of N112,100,000 for his personal use.

He was arraigned on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 on 16-count charges bordering on forgery, stealing, obtaining by false pretence and uttering, by the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

One of the counts reads: “Nwachukwu Placidus between February 2009 and November 2014 in Onitsha, Anambra State within the jurisdiction of the Anambra State High Court of Nigeria with intent to defraud obtained the sum of (N112,100,000) One Hundred and Twelve Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira only, from Idemili Microfinance Bank under the false pretence that you have placed the said money in a fixed deposit account with First City Monument Bank PLC for it, which pretence you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence”.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him, thus setting the stage for his trial.

In the course of trial, the EFCC, through its counsel, Mainforce Ekwu presented four witnesses and tendered several relevant documents which were admitted in evidence.

In his judgment, Justice Odili held that “the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt” and sentenced the convict to nine years imprisonment on count 3, 4 years on count 4 and 9 years on counts 5 to 16 respectively. He was discharged on counts 1 and 2. The sentences shall run concurrently.

The court further ordered the convict to restitute the said sum to his victim, Idemili Microfinance Bank.

Placidus ’journey to the Correctional Centre began when a petitioner , Idemili Microfinance Bank LTD, alleged that the sum of N112, 100, 000 was handed over to him as the branch manager of FCMB in Onitsha, for fixed deposit. However, when the petitioner approached the bank to terminate and withdraw the deposit, the bank denied receiving the said funds.

Upon receipt of the petition, the EFCC swung into action and investigations revealed that the convict diverted the money for his own use and issued a fake fixed Deposit Certificate to the petitioner.

Journalist hit by stray bullet at Kano Govt house

A journalist with Abubakar Rimi Television station (ARTV), Naziru Idris Ya’u, attached to the Kano Government House has been hit by a stray bullet.

Newstrends News reports that the bullet struck his shoulder shortly after he returned to the government residence after an assignment with Governor Abba Yusuf at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The reporter who sustained minor injury as a result, was rushed to the Government House Clinic where he was treated and discharged.

Security officials at the government house have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the incident.

But, Government House officials have not yet issued any statement on the incident.

The incident occurred on May 3, 2024, a day set aside for the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day by the United Nations to highlight the dangers faced by journalists in the course of carrying out their duties.

Ten persons arrested in Lagos over organ harvesting

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a gang of suspected ritualists who specialise in killing people and harvesting body parts for sale in various states.

The suspects include a woman who is an Osun priestess, a community chief, an Ifa priest, an Islamic cleric, and a trado-medicine practitioner.

While confirming this burst on Friday, the spokesperson of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the suspects who operate in one of the extreme divisions of Lagos were arrested through intelligence reports from the public.

According to him, the leader of the gang, a 33-year-old man, Ademola Akinlosotu, confessed initially that he was exhuming corpses from cemeteries and selling their parts to ritualists but later graduated to killing and selling human parts to customers on demand.

Speaking on his antecedents, Akinlosotu said that he moved from killing people to harvesting parts because his clients requested fresh parts rather than dead body parts.

Akinlosotu said ”while I and some members of the gang would do the killings,” he would supply the parts to a 52-year-old man, Ahmed Wahab, aka Alfa Bororo, who operated from Badagry in Lagos State and Ogun State, to supply his clients.

The suspect said a fresh human head is sold at N45,000 or N50,000 while a dried human head sells between N30,000 and N35,000; heart for N70,000 and hands for N50,000.

Akinlosotu speaking further admitted to killing two persons, which included a friend he met through social media, before he was arrested.

He said before they killed anyone, the herbalist would be contacted to consult an oracle to determine whether the killing would be successful or would bring trouble.

The suspect alleged that a traditional ruler in Badagry requested him to kill his son because he was giving him problems. He also said that the day they were to carry out the killing was when a friend he met online visited him, and he was killed.

Akinlosotu said that all he harvests, when he kills, is the person’s head, the heart, and the hands.

Hundeyin said exhibits of different human parts were recovered from the suspects as the police continued the trail of other suspects. The command said that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
