My daughter pregnant with twins, died with her glory –Slain lawyer’s mum
The mother of late Omobolanle Raheem, the lawyer who was shot dead by Drambi Vandi, a policeman attached to the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos State, has said the victim was pregnant with twins.
The bereaved woman, according to TheCable, spoke on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the family by the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi.
She said, “I cannot see my ‘The Law’ again. People usually call her ‘The Law’. She was taken away from me. She was pregnant with twins.
“She died with her glory. She left a five-year-old daughter behind. And they took her away.
“On Monday, my granddaughter came to me and said ‘Grandma Iju Ishaga, I saw you yesterday when you were crying; you were shouting; is it because of my mummy?’ And I said ‘yes’.
“Then she came again and told me, ‘Pastor Jerry said what God cannot do does not exist; so, grandma, stop crying’. And she kissed me on the cheek.
“It is not easy. A child that I have been training since childhood. I suffered over her. I hawked oranges; there is nothing I did not do.”
PUNCH Metro had reported that Vandi and his team tried to stop the car conveying Raheem and her family as they made a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge.
The policeman shot at the vehicle and Raheem was hit by a bullet.

She was rushed to a hospital where she was confirmed dead.
A senior security official at the Ajiwe Police Station, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, said Vandi claimed accidental discharge.
The source said, “He was being interrogated by the DPO and some senior police officers yesterday morning (Monday). He said he had cocked his gun to scare someone earlier and forgot to return it to safe. By the time the victim arrived at the checkpoint, he attempted to repeat the same act, but mistakenly pulled the trigger.”
The source disclosed that the killer cop was due for promotion next year.
“Vandi is a calm officer. He is due to be promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police by February 2023 and retire in 2024 before the unfortunate incident.
“He was also not supposed to be part of the team that went out that morning. Besides, it was a pistol that was also assigned to him and not the AK-47. We don’t know how he turned out to be in possession of the gun,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has said two policemen detained with Vandi would be released.
He said, “The two policemen arrested with the ASP who killed the lawyer will be released today (Tuesday) after giving their testimonies to the command. They were arrested because they saw what happened. They were not the ones who allegedly killed the woman. They have given their stories on what happened and the CP has ordered that they should be released while investigations continue.”
He stated that another policeman from the division who killed one Gafaru Buraimoh on December 7 would be charged upon the conclusion of investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), directed the Nigeria Police Force to take “the strongest possible action” against the suspect.
The President, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, also assured the deceased’s family and members of the Nigeria Bar Association that justice would prevail.
He noted that the incident was “a stark reminder of the recurring menace of the mishandling of weapons” and a wakeup call to law enforcement agencies, including the police, to ensure full implementation of reforms instituted by the regime.
Also, the Police Service Commission, in a statement by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, condemned the killing and called on the Nigeria Police Force to improve the training of officers to end unprovoked shootings and killing of innocent Nigerians.
The National Human Rights Commission, while condemning the killing, said Vandi “has fallen short of standard operating procedure and professional ethics of the Nigerian Police Force.”

The commission, in a statement by its Deputy Director (Corporate Affairs and External Linkages), Fatimah Mohammed, said it would continue to monitor the process of investigation and prosecution of the officer to ensure that justice was served.

The group included the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN; Head of Service, Muri Okunola; Commissioner for Women and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bolaji Dada; and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso.
The AG said, “We have the permission of Mr Governor to tell you that justice will be done in this matter. The matter will be charged to court as soon as the police send us the case file. I will be leading the prosecution to show the seriousness the government attaches to this matter.”
The Lekki Estates’ Residents and Stakeholders’ Association, also called for immediate action to stop the killing of its members by policemen.

Police Arrest Boko Haram, Lakurawa Terror Suspects, Rescue Kidnap Victim
Police Arrest Boko Haram, Lakurawa Terror Suspects, Rescue Kidnap Victim
The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded significant security breakthroughs, arresting three suspected members of the Mamudawa Boko Haram sect, four suspected Lakurawa bandits, and several logistics suppliers across the state. The command also successfully rescued a kidnapped victim during the coordinated operations, according to a press briefing by the Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, in Birnin Kebbi. CP Hadejia attributed the successes to intelligence-led policing and robust collaboration with other security agencies, vigilante groups, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF). The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across Kebbi State, which has faced increasing threats from non-state armed groups operating in the North-West region.
On June 5, 2026, operatives of the Police Mobile Force attached to Illo Division in Bagudo Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence while on patrol along the Illo-Lolo Road, intercepted and arrested three suspected members of the Mamudawa Boko Haram group. The suspects were identified as Muhammadu Bandi, Aliyu Abubakar, and Muhammadu Abubakar. According to the police commissioner, the trio was arrested while riding a motorcycle to Lolo town, allegedly to procure food supplies for other members of the group. Preliminary investigation linked the suspects to movements around Illo during the attack that claimed the lives of three Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel on June 4, 2026. The motorcycle recovered from the suspects bore a foreign registration number, raising concerns about cross-border criminal networks operating in the area. The suspects and the recovered motorcycle will be prosecuted accordingly.

In a separate operation on June 7, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., Police Mobile Force personnel deployed on special duty along the Ka’oje-Bakin Ruwa Road in Bagudo Local Government Area arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa group. The suspects were identified as Haruna Abubakar, Abubakar Lawali, Anme Shehu, and Yahaya Shehu. CP Hadejia stated that the suspects are being investigated over their alleged involvement in armed banditry activities within the SODA Forest in Bagudo, a known hideout for criminal elements. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for further investigation and potential prosecution.
The command also arrested a suspected logistics supplier to the Lakurawa terrorists in Zazzagawa Village, Argungu Local Government Area. The suspect, Murtala Sani, was apprehended on June 9, 2026, following intelligence reports that he supplied food items and beverages to members of the terrorist group. He was also alleged to have transported a suspected Lakurawa member to criminal hideouts on several occasions, providing critical support that enabled the group’s operations. The suspect is currently in custody and assisting the police in ongoing investigations aimed at apprehending other suspects still at large.
In a related development, the command arrested Ayuba Ibrahim, a resident of Bakin Ruwa in Bagudo Local Government Area, on June 11 for allegedly providing support to criminal elements operating in the area. During investigation, operatives recovered a pump-action rifle, three live cartridges, and a bag containing items suspected to be linked to criminal activities from his possession. The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue. The police also arrested Aliyu Jibrin, 42, of Kwakware Village in Arewa Local Government Area, after recovering a locally made pistol from his possession during a patrol operation at Makera Market. These arrests demonstrate the command’s commitment to mopping up illegal weapons and disrupting the logistics networks that sustain criminal operations.

On June 10, 2026, police operatives, supported by vigilantes and the Civilian JTF, rescued a kidnapped housewife, Asmau Isah, following an attack on her residence in the Bayan Forestry area of Birnin Kebbi. According to the commissioner, seven armed men invaded the residence, stole N220,000 and mobile phones before whisking the victim away to an unknown destination. Following a swift response by the joint security team, the victim was rescued unharmed and one suspect, Abubakar Siddi, was arrested. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, and Siddi will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma successfully repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation was carried out around the Dogon Daji community, where troops encountered the terrorists during an offensive mission aimed at clearing criminal elements from the area. Military authorities said the terrorists engaged the advancing troops in a fierce gun battle but were eventually overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the Nigerian military, forcing them to abandon their positions and retreat. Items recovered during the operation included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launch tubes, rocket-propelled grenades, several improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two motorcycles, and other personal belongings abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. No casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation, which dealt a significant blow to terrorist capabilities in the area.
The arrests and military operations come amid a broader push by the Federal Government to combat insecurity across the country. The Nigerian Government recently arraigned over 600 individuals suspected of terrorist acts before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, declared that the government would “fight with every inch of our blood” to eliminate terrorism. “Let everybody know that terrorism in whatever form or shape will not be tolerated. We will fight with everything we have to make Nigeria a haven for everybody,” Fagbemi stated. He disclosed that 10 judges have been assigned exclusively to handle terrorism-related cases and have temporarily suspended all other judicial responsibilities to focus on the proceedings, signaling the government’s determination to prosecute terror cases to conclusion.
In another achievement, the Kebbi Police Command recovered a stolen Mercedes-Benz C200 through inter-command collaboration. The vehicle, which was stolen in Sokoto State, was recovered in Birnin Kebbi, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Ahmed Sa’adu, popularly known as Baga. The suspect and the recovered vehicle have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
CP Hadejia commended the cooperation of security agencies, vigilante groups, and the Civilian JTF, describing their collaboration as vital to the ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry in the state. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive patrols and tactical operations across identified flashpoints to ensure the safety of residents. The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and continue sharing credible information with security agencies, assuring them that all reports would be treated confidentially. He reiterated the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace throughout Kebbi State, calling on all stakeholders to support the security agencies in their collective efforts to restore lasting peace to the region.

Grand Chief Imam Denies Involvement in Prayer Event for Oyo APC Governorship Candidate
Grand Chief Imam Denies Involvement in Prayer Event for Oyo APC Governorship Candidate
OYO – The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has distanced himself from a recent prayer gathering reportedly organised in Oyo Town in honour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, the Islamic leader said he was neither informed, invited nor represented at the event where his name was allegedly associated with the gathering.
The statement noted that while the Grand Chief Imam appreciated Senator Alli’s thanksgiving visit to Oyo Town and acknowledged his expression of gratitude to Allah and the people of Oyo State following his emergence as the APC flag bearer, such engagements should be conducted with proper consultation and respect for established religious leadership.
According to the statement, other recognised Islamic leaders in Oyo Land were also reportedly unaware of the prayer programme.

“The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Bilal Akinola Akeugberu, was neither informed, invited, nor represented at any prayer gathering where his name was reportedly associated with the event,” the statement said.
The office of the cleric stressed that Islam places significant importance on accountability, consultation and respect for legitimate leadership, warning against the use of the names of religious leaders and institutions without prior communication and approval.
It further expressed concern that the incident was not an isolated case, alleging that there had been previous instances in which announcements and representations involving Islamic institutions were made without the knowledge of the recognised leadership.
The statement warned that such actions could create confusion and misrepresentation within the Muslim community.
Consequently, the office cautioned individuals and organisations against impersonating or falsely presenting themselves as representatives of the Grand Chief Imam without official authorisation.
“The Office therefore cautions individuals and organisations against impersonating, misrepresenting, or presenting themselves as representatives of the Grand Chief Imam when no official mandate has been given,” the statement added.
Despite the controversy, the Grand Chief Imam reaffirmed his commitment to promoting unity, peaceful coexistence and collaboration with political leaders, religious organisations and community stakeholders for the development of Oyo State and Nigeria.
The statement also called for greater respect for traditional and religious institutions in Oyo Land, noting that such structures have played vital roles in maintaining peace, harmony and social stability in the ancient town.

Iyabo Obasanjo Secures PDP Senate Ticket After Party Switch
Iyabo Obasanjo Secures PDP Senate Ticket After Party Switch
Former Nigerian senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, has reportedly secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial ticket for Ogun Central shortly after rejoining the party, marking a major political comeback ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports from party sources in Ogun State indicate that the former lawmaker emerged as the PDP candidate following her return to the opposition party after a brief period in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Her return to the PDP came days after she resigned from the ruling APC, citing alleged internal party disagreements, lack of inclusion, and what she described as disrespect within the party structure.
Party insiders say her emergence as the PDP senatorial flagbearer reflects ongoing realignments within the opposition party in Ogun State, as political actors position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, previously served as senator representing Ogun Central between 2007 and 2011, during which she was active in legislative debates and governance issues at the national level.
Her return to frontline politics has been described by supporters as a strategic comeback, with expectations that she will leverage her experience as a former federal lawmaker and former state commissioner for health.
The development is expected to intensify political competition in Ogun Central Senatorial District, where parties are already strengthening structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP is yet to officially release a comprehensive list of its confirmed candidates for the forthcoming general elections, but internal party sources suggest more nominations will be finalised and announced in the coming weeks as preparations continue nationwide.
