Presidency replies PDP, says Nigerians will reject them again in 2023

The Presidency on Sunday described as disgraceful the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Nigerians were fed up with President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and are yearning for the return of the PDP to power in 2023.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said Nigeria wouldl not welcome the PDP which is ‘the university of lies’ to power again.

National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Kola Ologbondiyan, in an interview had said having experienced both the PDP and the APC, Nigerians had realised that only the PDP had the interest of the country at heart.

However, Shehu in his response said, “These days, so many people are saying so many things, indulging mostly in the abuses of others and as official spokespersons we make the deliberate choice of staying out for the most part.

“But it is hard to ignore the shameful and disgraceful claims made by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which is making the false claims that Nigerians are dissatisfied with the present and wished for the return to the years of locusts.

“At the rate they are going, it is not farfetched to agree with another politician in describing the PDP as a “university of falsehood”, in which the bigger the lies their functionaries can tell, the higher in rank they are promoted to.

“It is too soon for their evil records to be washed away or forgotten. They held onto the throne of power for 16 years fighting for their own happiness, not that of the majority of Nigerians. They turned the country into a nation of scams promoting corruption to an industrial scale, exploiting the country’s oil, mineral and land resources for selfish reasons.

“PDP’s lasting legacy will be the catastrophe that was the power expansion programme in which USD 16 billion was taken from the treasury without a megawatt of electricity added to the grid system.

“The Buhari-led administration is on the other hand fighting for the happiness of the majority of Nigerians, rebuilding a battered economy, putting in place long-delayed infrastructure and managing a novel Coronavirus pandemic in a very competent and impressive manner as to earn the commendation of the World Health Organization.”

He also said in the 16-year period, a barrel of oil was sold for as high as $140 and the PDP-led FG “blew a golden opportunity to grow the economy to soaring heights. They could have used the enormous earrings to increase power generation, modernise the rail and fix roads and bridges as the present administration is currently struggling, with lesser incomes to do.”

He added, “About 800 road projects are currently ongoing in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

“The malaise of the PDP administration is manifested in the collapse of local food production, replaced by a daily average spending of USD 5 million in rice importation. Today, not a kobo from the Central Bank of Nigeria is used to fund the importation of food. In effect, we eat what we grow. PDP broke the economy by killing industrialization.”

He also said in those 16 years, textile industry, the largest employer was killed and that 38 major textile companies closed down business in Nigeria between 1999 and 2009.

“The nation’s budding industry virtually fled to neighbouring countries – Ghana, Cote D’Ivore and far away Kenya were all transforming into manufacturing hubs at our expense. In 2006, two of Nigeria’s leading tyre manufacturers, Michelin and Dunlop, relocated their factories to Ghana citing epileptic energy supply in Nigeria as the chief reason.”

“Over those 16 years, PDP told stunning tales of economic growth and peddled rates as high as the windmill without industrial growth, without agricultural growth, without investment and without jobs for the teeming youths. In sum total, they gave the nation a lost half-generation.”

Shehu said, “The main reason for the defeat of the PDP in 2015 was corruption. The present administration at the centre led by President Muhammadu Buhari has so far presented a corrupt-free image of itself. It has succeeded in abolishing grand corruption at the top. Today, you are sure that no one will call the governor of central bank and ask him to bring hard cash- naira, pounds, dollars, euro or renminbi.”

“With increased procurement of military aircraft, weapons, equipment and ammunition, the remaining task of ridding Borno State of Boko Haram is well on course.”

“Military procurements and increasing recruitment will ensure the momentum of ridding the Northwestern and North Central States are equally rid of kidnapping, cattle rustling and banditry,” he added.

2027: Tinubu Reconciles With 8 Zamfara Lawmakers Who Dumped APC, ADC Defection Shelved

Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly agreed to return to the ruling party following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The lawmakers, who had earlier dumped the APC amid internal disagreements, were said to have reconsidered their decision after meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which reportedly took place on Sunday night, October 18, was facilitated by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who led the delegation alongside a member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji.

The development comes amid speculation that the eight legislators were preparing to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), an opposition party that has been attracting political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, following the engagement with Tinubu, efforts are reportedly underway to address their grievances and persuade them to remain within the APC.

The lawmakers had announced their resignation from the ruling party in early October, citing worsening insecurity in Zamfara State, alleged injustice, internal divisions and the non-payment of their salaries and allowances.

Their departure had raised questions about the APC’s internal political situation in Zamfara, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

Imo APC Defies Court Ruling, Insists Uzodimma Remains Senatorial Candidate

Imo APC Defies Court Ruling, Insists Uzodimma Remains Senatorial Candidate

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, despite a Federal High Court judgment recognising former governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s validly nominated candidate.

The party’s position sets the stage for a fresh legal and political battle over the APC’s senatorial ticket following the judgment delivered in Abuja on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the APC maintained that Uzodimma won the party’s senatorial primary and secured the nomination with the support of the majority of its members.

“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement said.

The party, however, indicated that it would examine the court’s decision before determining its next course of action.

“The party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it added.

The APC also urged its members and supporters to remain focused and committed to securing victory for the party across the state in the 2027 elections.

The party’s declaration came hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Uzodimma’s name as the APC candidate for Imo West and recognise Okorocha instead.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, who delivered the judgment, held that the evidence presented before the court established that Okorocha won the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026.

The judge consequently directed the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC as its candidate for the senatorial district and ordered the electoral commission to publish his name.

Uzodimma was also ordered to stop presenting himself as the APC’s candidate for the senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The dispute followed Okorocha’s legal challenge to INEC’s recognition of Uzodimma as the winner of the party’s primary.

In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, Okorocha questioned the electoral commission’s decision to publish Uzodimma’s name despite his claim that the primary election results and monitoring records showed that he had won.

Okorocha filed the case on August 13, 2026, seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise him as the party’s duly nominated candidate.

During the proceedings, Uzodimma, the APC and INEC opposed the suit, presenting arguments and evidence in support of the governor’s nomination.

The governor’s camp maintained that Uzodimma won the primary election, with a representative of the party’s election committee claiming that he secured 230,464 votes against Okorocha’s 1,098 votes.

Okorocha’s camp, however, presented a different account of the primary election, including documents it said supported his claim to the ticket.

After considering the evidence before it, the court ruled in favour of the former governor.

Okorocha, who governed Imo State from 2011 to 2019, previously represented Imo West in the Senate between 2019 and 2023. His latest bid to return to the National Assembly has revived his longstanding political rivalry with Uzodimma.

Uzodimma, who is serving his second and final term as governor, is seeking to secure the APC ticket for the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party’s insistence that he remains its candidate, despite the court’s orders, leaves the dispute at a critical stage as the APC considers its legal options.

The final outcome could determine who represents the party in the contest for Imo West and shape the political calculations surrounding the district ahead of the 2027 general elections.

BREAKING: Court Sacks Uzodinma as APC Candidate, Declares Okorocha Winner of Imo West Primary

A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections and ordered the recognition of former governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s candidate.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu delivered the judgment on Thursday, October 29, 2026, ruling that evidence before the court established that Okorocha won the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 18, 2026.

The judge ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and publish Okorocha’s name as the APC candidate. He also directed the party to forward Okorocha’s name to the electoral commission and restrained Uzodinma from continuing to present himself as the party’s candidate for the senatorial contest scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The judgment followed a legal challenge filed by Okorocha against the recognition of Uzodinma as the winner of the party’s primary. The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, questioned INEC’s decision to recognise the incumbent governor as the party’s nominee.

The dispute has been marked by conflicting accounts of the primary election. INEC’s previously reported official result credited Uzodinma with 230,464 votes and Okorocha with 1,098 votes. However, Okorocha challenged that outcome in court, insisting that he won the primary.

The ruling represents a major development in the contest for the Imo West Senate seat, although the political and legal implications may depend on any further court proceedings.

Following the judgment, the Imo State chapter of the APC maintained that Uzodinma remained its candidate, saying its legal department would study the court’s decision and determine the party’s next steps.

The development leaves the party facing a dispute over who should represent it in the senatorial election, with the court’s directives placing Okorocha in line for the ticket.

The court’s ruling and the APC’s response have both been reported by Nigerian media outlets.
