The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspected notorious kidnapper, identified as Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy”, alongside the recovery of disturbing exhibits including a human skull, bones, cartridges, and a dagger.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspect was arrested in a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the command after weeks of surveillance and tracking of the suspected criminal network.

The operation led to a raid on the gang’s hideout, where the suspect and other members of his group were apprehended. Police authorities confirmed that the arrest is linked to ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping syndicates operating within Akwa Ibom State and surrounding areas.

During the raid, officers reportedly recovered shocking items believed to be connected to the gang’s criminal activities, including a human skull, human bones, live cartridges, and a dagger suspected to have been used in violent operations.

Security sources say the discovery of human remains raises concerns that the gang may also be involved in ritual-related crimes in addition to kidnapping activities, though investigations are still ongoing to establish full details.

The police spokesperson further stated that efforts have been intensified to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and uncover the extent of their operations across the state.

The command assured residents that the arrest represents a significant step in ongoing anti-kidnapping operations and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety, restoring public confidence, and flushing out criminal elements in Akwa Ibom.

Investigations are currently ongoing as the suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged in court upon completion of inquiries.
