Anambra: Soludo appoints ex-minister Ezekwesili as head of transition team

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili

Anambra State Governor-Elect Prof Chukwuma Soludo has appointed the former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, as the head of his transition team ahead of the March 17 handover.

Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, was declared the winner of the November 6, 2021 governorship election in the state. He was the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Valentine Ozigbo, who came second. Although an Abuja court recently declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had no candidate in the poll, INEC had declared that Senator Andy Uba came third on the party’s platform.

Other members of the transition committee were not yet known at the time of filing this report as the list has not been officially released.

PDP Reclaims Abuja Council Chairmanship From APC

Hon. Christopher Maikalangu

ABUJA – A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) court has upheld the election of Hon. Christopher Maikalangu as chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

In a unanimous judgment, the three-man tribunal, including Hon. Justice S. B Belgore (chairman), Hon. Justice Yusuf Halilu (member 1), and Hon. Justice Jude O. Onwuegbuzie (member 2) dismissed the August 5 judgment of the FCT Area Council Election Tribunal, which declared Hon. Murtala Usman Karshi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the election of February 12.

The justices said that the judgment of the lower tribunal was not only evil, but negates all the achievements recorded in Nigeria’s democracy.

While reading out the lead judgment in suit FCT/ ACEAT/AP/01/22, which had Maikalangu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as appellant and Murtala Karshi and three others as respondent, Hon. Justice Yusuf Halilu said the lower tribunal erred by ignoring contradictory evidences before it.

The panel said the lower court did a hatchet job by declaring Karshi winner of the election.

“It is not in doubt the APC as a party was faced with legal battles after the party primaries to nominate a flag bearer for the AMAC election held on 12th February 2022. It is equally not in doubt that the 1st respondent, Murtala Usman Karshi, was involved in the said altercation, which eventually landed parties before the apex court of this land i.e Supreme Court of Nigeria, which eventually declared the 1st respondent as winner of the APC primary for AMAC election.

“We have seen the evidences supplied by both the appellant and the respondents to the lower tribunal. The witnesses listed by the APC as supervisors in the disputed polling units admitted that they were not polling unit agents. It has become critical for us to ask questions at this point on what the process of collating results connote.

“Can collation be done without polling units results? It is indeed a process of an election that votes are cast at polling units, results collated by electoral officers and results announced to the hearing of all. If that is the case, who then is the proper person to be called in the event that there is a complaint anchored on wrongful collation of results? Is it the ward supervisor or a polling unit agent? The answer is a polling unit agent.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Rear Admiral Ilesanmi Alade (rtd) has started rallying support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.

Specifically, Alade inaugurated the Democratic Network for Asiwaju/ Shettima (DNA) at Sita Hall in Akure, Ondo State.

The former Commandant of National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja said the group was formed in 2018 to mobilise for the re-election of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in 2020 and it delivered on the mandate.

He said the group had been restructured to drive more mobilisation for Tinubu’s candidacy, assuring that DNA was well rooted in the 18 local governments of Ondo State.

“The campaign group was approved on September 20 by the national body of our party headed by Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu to serve as a support group and to ensure that our activities are in synergy with the party’s guidelines and constitution,” he said.

Alade said the group would canvass and convince the electorate on why they should vote for the presidential candidate of APC.

“At this point, let me congratulate all executive members being inaugurated today.

“Your antecedents led to your nomination and I believe that with you, the Democratic Networks for Asiwaju/Shettima DNA will get to the promise land…

“Let me make it clear that DNA will not operate in isolation of the APC constituted guidelines and command structure,” he said.

National Coordinator of Next-Level Consolidation Forum, Oladesu Oladipo, has said the forum is committed in the campaign to elect the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

He spoke when he visited the Presidential Campaign Council with Southwest leaders of Next-Level Consolidation Forum (NLCF) in Abuja.

According to him, NLCF is involved and committed to ensuring Tinubu’s presidency succeeds, adding that Tinubu/Shetima government will bring about Next-Level prosperity for  Nigerians, regardless of creed, tribe or tongue.

Highlighting the impact of Tinubu’s leadership, he said:  “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is being eulogised today as the architect of good governance in Lagos State. The great man among great men, the leader who laid the foundation plan that his successors are following today and the governor who raised the monthly Internal Generated Revenue of Lagos State from N600 million to N30 billion monthly.

‘’It is our prayer that  Asiwaju Tinubu will win the election and become the president of Nigeria.”

He  assured of NLCF’s determination to mobilise Nigerians for the victory of Tinubu.

I have not withdrawn from presidential race – Tinubu

  • Shares Workout Video

Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, says he is fit to run for the office and has no intention of withdrawing from the race.

The ex-Lagos governor who shared a workout video on his Twitter handle Sunday spoke amid questions about his health status, stressing that he had withdrawn from the contest.

“Many have said I have died; others claim I have withdrawn from the presidential campaign,” the APC candidate tweeted on his verified handle.

“Well… Nope. This is the reality: I am strong; I am healthy and I am READY to serve Nigerians from Day One,” he added.

There have been concerns about the health status of Tinubu, with many Nigerians questioning his capacity for the nation’s top job.

Tinubu has not been seen in political gatherings, particularly at the signing of a peace accord by presidential candidates ahead of next year’s exercise.

While other candidates gathered at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, he sent his running mate, Kashim Shettima, to represent him. The development triggered reactions and pushed #WhereIsTinubu to the top trends on social media last Wednesday.

In August, the former Borno State governor also represented him at the NBA conference.

While reacting to comments about Tinubu’s whereabouts, a member of the APC  Presidential Campaign Council, Ayo Oyalowo, said the party’s flagbearer is resting in London.
