APC chieftain’s house set ablaze in Benue

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Benue South Senatorial District Alhaji Usman Abubakar aka Young Alhaji, said yesterday that hoodlums set his house ablaze in Otukpo.

He said the incident happened about 3am yesterday.

He described those who carried out the act as his political opponents.

According to the former Deputy Governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, the hoodlums stormed his Fair Wind Avenue in Otukpo and set his house on fire.

He said a building attached to the gatehouse was burnt and property worth millions destroyed.

Abubakar said he reported the incident to security agencies though police were yet to issue a statement at press time.

Suspected kidnapper arrested after collecting ransom in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper after he collected ransom before releasing his female victim.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, March 17, 2025, said the suspect identified as Abdulahi Isah, was arrested in a bush five days after he abducted the woman in Ibusa community, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

“On 12/3/2025, at about 1100hours, an indigene of Ibusa (name withheld) reported at Ibusa Police station that his friend’s wife was kidnapped on 7/3/2025 and a ransom was paid and that he was the person who delivered the ransom and other food items to the kidnappers,” the statement read.

” Acting on useful information provided by the said man the DPO Ibusa Police Station swiftly mobilized the patrol team of Ibusa division alongside vigilantes and stormed the bush where the suspect Abdulahi Isah was arrested.

Lagos to prosecute woman over improper waste disposal

The Lagos State Government has stated that it will prosecute a woman known as Nwakwo Patience for allegedly dumping rubbish at an undesignated location.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for environment and water resources, announced on Monday that the suspect was apprehended on March 13, 2025, at around 7:47 a.m. in the Alimosho area of Lagos.

The commissioner stated that the individual “identified as Nwakwo Patient was observed illegally dumping refuse at Alimosho Bus Stop along New Ipaja Road.”

“Further investigations at her residence confirmed the absence of a designated waste storage facility. While the suspect claimed to be registered with the Private Sector Participant operator servicing the area, she was unable to provide any supporting evidence of such registration or payment for waste collection services,” Wahab said in a statement on X.

He also disclosed that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 to ensure compliance with waste management regulations.

FG okays closure of Independence Bridge in Lagos from Wednesday

The Federal Ministry of Works has informed the motoring public of the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina bound) in Lagos, commencing on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025.

It said in a statement on Monday that the closure was necessary to facilitate essential maintenance and rehabilitation work on the bridge.

The closure will affect people travelling from the Ahmadu Bello Way & Adeola Odeku Road towards Marina, Eko Bridge and Onikan by Zone 2, according to the statement.

The independence bridge would remain closed until the end of May 2025 for the repairs, it added.

Motorists are therefore advised to plan their journeys accordingly and seek alternative routes, it stated.

“The Federal Ministry of Works apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation as we strive to ensure the safety and stability of our road infrastructure,” the statement signed by the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos, Engr. (Mrs) O I Kesha, said.
