Boko Haram displays severed’ heads of victims after Niger state attack
Suspected Boko Haram militants reportedly went berserk on Friday holding out some cut off heads of their victims for display in a Niger community after an attack.
This came after killing at least 20 people in the Bassa community of the Shiroro Local Government Area.
Among the victims, 10 youths were reportedly beheaded, with their heads shown to community members in a video recorded by the attackers.
The assault occurred around 8am on Friday, targeting villagers who had returned to collect food and other essentials after fleeing a previous attack.
A local source said those killed had refused to join the Boko Haram sect, which had warned the villagers against returning.

“They told us never to come back. But we returned to gather our necessities, and they attacked us,” the source said.
Reacting to the massacre, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East senatorial district, condemned the killings as barbaric and inhuman.
“My heart bleeds for them. This is my darkest moment as the representative of the people of Niger East. I feel helpless as my people are being slaughtered like animals,” Musa lamented. “These are innocent farmers. What do they want from them? Are they trying to drive my people from their lands?”
He also said three weeks ago, bandits attacked Kuchi village, killing seven security agents and kidnapping about 150 people, leaving the community deserted.
Two months earlier, nine persons residing in the Allawa community of the same local government area were beheaded by the sect for disregarding a warning to stay away from their ancestral lands.
