Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been charged with two more counts of rape, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

The CPS said in a statement today that it had authorised Cheshire police to charge the defender with two additional counts of rape and Louis Saha Matturie, 40, with two additional counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Mendy, of Withinlee Road, Prestbury, Cheshire, and Matturie, of Edwin Court, Eccles, will appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on November 17.

Mendy, 27, now faces six counts of rape and one of sexual assault which relate to four complainants over the age of 16.

He has been remanded in custody since his first appearance at the magistrates’ court on August 27.

So far no pleas have been entered to the charges.

At a previous hearing at the magistrates’ court, Christopher Stables, representing Mr Mendy, said that his client strenuously denies the allegations.

A provisional trial date was set for January 24 next year with an estimated length of two and a half weeks.

Following his charging by Cheshire Police in August, Manchester City said Mr Mendy, who the Blues signed from Monaco in 2017, had been suspended “pending an investigation.”

“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete” they added.

The final medals standings, released on the official Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games X handle after the close of competition on Sunday, confirmed Nigeria’s remarkable performance behind only Australia, England, Canada, India, Scotland and New Zealand.

Nigeria’s campaign gathered momentum after Esther Nworgu won the country’s first gold medal in the women’s lightweight para-powerlifting event.

England finished second with 110 medals (29 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze), while Canada placed third with 62 medals made up of 19 gold, 20 silver and 23 bronze.

India and hosts Scotland completed the top five with 39 medals each, with India taking fourth place on the strength of a superior silver medal tally.

New Zealand finished sixth with 36 medals (10 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze), narrowly ahead of Nigeria, whose 10 gold medals ensured it finished above every other African country.

Jamaica placed eighth, Wales finished ninth, while Malaysia completed the top 10.

South Africa ended 11th with 28 medals, ahead of Northern Ireland in 12th, while Kenya finished 13th.

Cyprus, Mauritius, Cameroon, Jersey, Samoa, Sri Lanka and Fiji also featured among the leading nations.

Among the remaining African countries, Uganda, Namibia, Ghana, Lesotho, Zambia and Gabon all finished on the medals table, underscoring Nigeria’s dominance on the continent.
