BREAKING: Several Injured as Car Crashes Into Tricycles in Lagos
Several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries on Monday morning after a Honda vehicle crashed into two commercial tricycles at the Federal Bus Stop along Ipaja Road in Lagos State.
The accident, which occurred at about 8:50 a.m., involved a Honda car with registration number KTU 921 JY and reportedly left around 10 passengers injured in the busy corridor linking Ipaja and surrounding communities.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the female driver of the vehicle was allegedly speeding when she attempted to avoid a street sweeper working with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) along the road.
According to witnesses at the scene, the driver lost control while trying to maneuver around the sweeper, struck the sanitation worker, and subsequently veered across the road before crashing into two tricycles (popularly known as Keke Napep) on the opposite lane.
The impact of the collision reportedly caused panic among commuters and traders in the area as passengers were flung from the tricycles, with several sustaining serious injuries while others suffered minor wounds.

Emergency response was quickly activated as residents, commercial drivers, and passers-by rushed to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.
A correspondent at the scene reported that the injured victims were initially taken to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment before some were later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further medical attention due to the severity of their injuries.
Security personnel, including officers from the Gowon Divisional Police Headquarters, neighbourhood watch groups, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), were deployed to the scene to manage traffic congestion and coordinate rescue efforts.
Traffic along the Ipaja axis was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to clear the affected vehicles and restore normal movement.
Preliminary observations suggested that overspeeding and poor road manoeuvring may have contributed to the crash, although officials have not confirmed the exact cause.
As of the time of filing this report, the police and traffic authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and investigations are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Road crashes involving tricycles and commercial vehicles remain a recurring concern in Lagos, particularly along high-traffic corridors such as Ipaja Road, where congestion, speeding, and pedestrian activity often increase accident risks.
