CCTV Surveillance Nabs Three Suspected Vandals on Third Mainland Bridge
Nigeria’s newly deployed CCTV surveillance system on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos has led to the real-time arrest of three suspected vandals, highlighting a major boost in infrastructure security and public safety on one of the country’s busiest bridges.
The suspects were caught attempting to steal 156 reflective cat-eye lights, crucial for night-time road safety, as they damaged the bridge. The act was captured live by CCTV operators, who immediately alerted security personnel, resulting in their swift apprehension.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, commended the arrest as a demonstration of the effectiveness of Nigeria’s new CCTV system. He urged citizens to take collective responsibility for protecting public infrastructure, warning that vandalism undermines government efforts to improve transportation networks and commuter safety.
Umahi also condemned ongoing vandalism of road infrastructure across the country and confirmed that the suspects would face prosecution. He stressed that the “Eagle Eye” CCTV network is fully operational, enabling 24/7 monitoring of critical bridges and roads to prevent further criminal activity.
The successful arrest marks a key milestone for the federal initiative to modernize infrastructure security, which includes advanced surveillance, rapid response by security agencies, and enhanced road safety measures for motorists. This development reinforces Lagos State’s commitment to protecting vital transport corridors and deterring criminal activity.
