Emefiele: DSS regrets clash with warders, probes incident
The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has commenced investigation into the clash that occurred on Tuesday between its operatives and prison officials at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Some DSS and prison officials were engaged in a free-for-all on the court premises after the arraignment of the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Spokesman for the secret police, Peter Afunanya, described the clash as “unfortunate”.
Afunanya said in a report published Wednesday evening by Daily Trust that the incident was being probed.
Emefiele was arraigned for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition but was granted bail in the sum of N20m with one surety, following his “not guilty” plea.
As the defendants lawyers were trying to perfect his bail conditions, DSS operatives and prison officials were almost throwing punches over who would take custody of the embattled CBN boss.
