Works Minister David Umahi
End Biafra Agitation, Tinubu Has Integrated Ndigbo Into National Development — Umahi
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on Igbo people worldwide to end agitations for a separate Biafran nation, arguing that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has addressed long-standing grievances of marginalisation through what he described as unprecedented inclusion, integration and infrastructure development.
Umahi made the appeal late Saturday while inspecting ongoing mega road projects along the Enugu–Anambra Road, where he addressed stakeholders, contractors and community leaders.
According to the minister, the historical push for Biafra secession was rooted in neglect, exclusion and underrepresentation at the federal level, but he insisted that the narrative has changed under the current administration.
“The push for Biafra over the years was borne out of neglect and exclusion, but today the situation has changed dramatically under President Tinubu,” Umahi said.
“When a people are fully integrated, respected and empowered within the structure of the nation, the dream once pursued through agitation is achieved through cooperation.”

He said the Tinubu administration has deliberately opened the doors of national governance and development to the South-East, noting that federal appointments, policy participation and infrastructure priorities now reflect what he termed true federal balance.
Umahi cited his role as Minister of Works and other strategic positions occupied by Igbo appointees as evidence that Ndigbo have received their fair share in national leadership.
“Every sector now bears visible Igbo footprints. The emergence of Igbo sons and daughters in key positions is proof of genuine inclusion,” he said.
The minister also pointed to major infrastructure projects across the five South-East states, many of which, he said, were previously considered unattainable, as further evidence of renewed federal commitment to the region.
He added that these developments explain why several South-East leaders, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, have aligned with the APC-led Federal Government.
“Biafra was never about breaking Nigeria; it was about being counted in Nigeria,” Umahi said. “Through inclusion, equity and concrete development, Ndigbo are no longer spectators but co-authors of Nigeria’s future.”
Umahi urged the South-East to rally behind President Tinubu, recalling his earlier remarks during an inspection of the Enugu–Benue highway dualisation project at Ninth Mile Corner, where he said the current administration had “remembered the South-East” and deserved overwhelming support.
