Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi
Ex‑Ondo Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi Returns to APC
Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending his stint with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and signaling a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajayi, who served as deputy governor under Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, rejoined the APC during a ceremony in Apoi Ward 2, Kiribo, Ese Odo Local Government Area. He was welcomed by party leaders and stakeholders, with the APC describing his return as a boost to party unity and grassroots mobilisation.

Speaking at the event, Ajayi stated that he returned to the APC to actively participate in party affairs, support the EASE Agenda of Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and contribute to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 vision for Nigeria. He emphasized that his re-entry would enable him to strengthen the party’s presence across Ondo State and prepare for upcoming elections.
The Ondo APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, described Ajayi as a “political bulldozer” whose return would enhance the party’s electoral prospects and consolidate support in strategic areas of the state.
Ajayi’s move is part of a broader pattern of political realignment in Ondo, where several key figures, including former PDP deputy governorship candidates, have defected to the APC. Analysts say these shifts reflect the party’s strategy to solidify dominance in the southwest and position itself strongly ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Ajayi previously left the APC for the PDP in 2020 due to internal disagreements but now signals a strategic return to the ruling party, underscoring the fluid nature of politics in Ondo State.
