Fatal Truck Crash in Ibadan Leaves Multiple Dead, Several Injured

A tragic road accident has claimed multiple lives in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, after a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into several vehicles along the busy Oja’ba–Béèrè corridor on Monday, March 24, 2026.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred in the early hours of the day when the truck, suspected to have suffered brake failure, was descending the slope leading into Béèrè roundabout. The driver allegedly lost control, ploughing into commercial vehicles, including minibuses and tricycles, which were conveying passengers at the time.

Several occupants were reportedly crushed on impact, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. Witnesses described a horrifying scene, with victims trapped inside mangled vehicles as bystanders struggled to rescue them before the arrival of emergency responders.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in collaboration with local emergency services, later arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts. Some victims were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to nearby hospitals, including facilities within the Ibadan metropolis, for urgent medical attention.

Although authorities have yet to release an official casualty figure, multiple sources at the scene confirmed that several persons lost their lives, while many others were critically injured.

The accident triggered massive traffic congestion along the Oja’ba, Beere, and adjoining routes, leaving commuters stranded for hours as rescue operations and vehicle clearance continued.

Residents and road users in the area have once again raised alarm over the recurring incidents of brake failure involving heavy-duty trucks navigating the city’s steep and densely populated routes. Many called on government agencies to enforce stricter vehicle inspection measures and regulate the movement of articulated trucks, especially in high-risk areas.

As of press time, relevant authorities were still investigating the cause of the crash, with expectations that an official statement would provide further clarity on the number of casualties and possible sanctions.
