Five Residents, Soldier Killed in Bandit Attacks Across Plateau State
A series of violent attacks by suspected bandits in Plateau State, Nigeria has left five residents and one soldier dead, heightening concerns over rising insecurity in the region. The attacks targeted multiple communities, forcing residents to flee and prompting urgent military responses.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants first struck Sabon Gari in the Bashar district, burning homes and property before moving on to other villages, including Zurak. During the confrontations, the soldier on duty was killed defending local residents, and three other soldiers are reported missing, raising fears for their safety.
The attacks have caused mass displacement, with many residents seeking refuge in neighbouring towns. Community leaders described the violence as brazen and highly coordinated, noting that bandits often strike rural areas with minimal warning, exploiting gaps in local security.
