Gunmen kidnap cop, free suspects in fresh Imo police station attack
Gunmen have continued their onslaught on police stations in Imo State with an early morning Thursday attack on Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters situated in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
The bandits abducted a cop, injured two others and freed many suspects in detention at the police station.
A report by The PUNCH quoted an indigene of Mbieri that the bandits struck around 1am and immediately released the suspects in custody at the police facility.
The gunmen were also said to have taken away the phones of the police personnel on duty at the division and those of the suspects.
But a police source at the division said, “We resisted them but they overpowered us. They had more sophisticated weapons. They took all the phones they saw; released the suspects and vandalised the police building.”
The source also said the attackers kidnapped one police officer and injured two other cops.
A community leader, Nokey Ebikam, however said the police divisional headquarters was not burnt.
According to him, the gunmen attacked the police facility and freed the suspects in detention after vandalising the building.
Another indigene of the area, Darlington Irobi, confirmed the attack on the police facility.
Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the attack on the police station when he was contacted by The PUNCH on Thursday morning.
He also confirmed that while one police officer was missing, two others were injured.
Ikeokwu also confirmed that some suspects detained in the police facility were freed by the attackers.
He however said the police authority in the state had commenced investigation into the attack.
The PUNCH reports that six divisional police headquarters had been attacked between February and April apart from the state police command headquarters and Owerri Correctional Centre attacked on Monday, with 1,884 inmates released and over 50 vehicles burnt.
The gunmen also attacked a military base at Ukwuorji on the Owner-Onitsha Expressway and razed four other operational vehicles belonging to the military.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has said some aggrieved politicians are behind the attacks on police stations, adding that their objective is to destablise the All Progressives Congress administration.

42-Year-Old Married Woman Declared Missing Found in Hotel with Man
A 42-year-old woman declared missing in Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has been found in a hotel room in Ugbe-Akoko, sparking widespread reactions and renewed concerns over the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
The woman reportedly left her matrimonial home in Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area without informing her husband or family members, prompting fears that she had been abducted or harmed.
Her husband was said to have raised the alarm after repeated attempts to reach her failed, leading to concern among relatives and residents of the community. The development triggered a search effort as anxiety grew over her whereabouts.
According to sources familiar with the case, the woman was later traced to Ugbe-Akoko in Akoko North-East Local Government Area, located about 124 kilometres from Ilara-Mokin. The journey between both locations typically takes over two hours by road.

She was reportedly discovered in a hotel in the area in the company of a 55-year-old man. Both individuals were taken in for questioning by relevant authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding their presence at the location.
Preliminary findings suggest that the woman may not have been abducted as initially feared but might have left home voluntarily without informing her family. However, officials are still working to establish the full details surrounding her movement and activities before she was found.
The incident has generated mixed reactions among residents of both communities, with many expressing shock, confusion, and concern over the circumstances that led to her disappearance and eventual discovery in a hotel.
Security agencies are continuing investigations to determine whether any offence was committed and to clarify the nature of the relationship between the woman and the man found with her.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from law enforcement authorities, while the case continues to attract attention across Ondo State.

ADC Threatens Civil Disobedience To Force INEC Chairman To Resign
ADC Threatens Civil Disobedience To Force INEC Chairman To Resign
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, over allegations of political bias linked to controversial old social media posts, while also threatening civil disobedience if he remains in office.
The opposition party said its position follows growing concerns about the neutrality of the electoral body ahead of future elections, insisting that the credibility of the electoral process in Nigeria must not be compromised.
The controversy centres on alleged archived posts on X (formerly Twitter) attributed to an account bearing Amupitan’s name, which critics claim contained expressions perceived as supportive of the ruling All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The allegations gained wider attention after US-based Nigerian scholar Farooq Kperogi referenced the purported posts in a public commentary, arguing that they raise questions about the independence of INEC leadership. The claims have since sparked heated debate across social media, with supporters of the electoral commission questioning their authenticity while critics insist they undermine public trust in the institution.

In response, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, cautioned against misinformation and impersonation, warning that cybercriminals may be using fake accounts to circulate false narratives. He reaffirmed that INEC remains committed to delivering free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria, urging the public to rely only on verified communication channels from the commission.
Reacting to the controversy, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi described the allegations as a serious breach of public trust and a threat to Nigeria’s democratic integrity, arguing that an electoral umpire must not only be neutral but must also be seen to be unquestionably impartial. According to him, the allegations—if proven true—undermine confidence in the leadership of the electoral body. Abdullahi further alleged attempts to manipulate or alter digital records linked to the controversy, describing the situation as a “calculated assault on truth and accountability.”
He said: “The referee cannot be running around in the shirt of one of the teams he is supposed to officiate.” The ADC insisted that Prof. Amupitan must resign immediately, warning that failure to do so would trigger escalated action, including civil disobedience protests across Nigeria. The party also said it would update petitions to relevant professional and international bodies, including the Nigeria Bar Association (Nigeria Bar Association), as part of efforts to intensify pressure on the electoral commission.
The controversy adds to rising political tension surrounding the leadership of INEC, as opposition parties increasingly scrutinise the commission’s neutrality ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. Analysts say the situation highlights ongoing concerns about trust in Nigeria’s electoral institutions, especially in the digital age where social media content can significantly influence public perception.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC has not issued a fresh statement addressing the ADC’s latest demand for the chairman’s resignation or its threat of civil disobedience.

16-Year-Old Alleges Repeated Rape by Pastor During ‘Deliverance’ in Anambra
A 16-year-old girl, Precious Okafor, has accused a pastor, Evangelist Dozie Ezani, of repeatedly raping her during a so-called “special deliverance” in Amichi, Anambra State.
The teenager spoke at the Onitsha office of the Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) after she was rescued from the suspect.
Precious, a native of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, said she had been living in Lagos where she was schooling in SS1 before her aunt brought her back to the village in November 2025.
She said her aunt told her guardians in Lagos that a pastor had revealed she was possessed by “seven marine spirits” and needed urgent spiritual intervention at his church, Jesus Is Ontop Ministry in Amichi.
According to her, she was taken to the pastor’s residence at night and handed over to him, after which her aunt left.
She alleged that on the first night, while she slept in the same room with the pastor’s children, he came in and began touching her inappropriately, but she resisted and pushed him away. She added that she later overheard his wife asking where he had been, to which he responded that he was checking on the children.
The following day, she said she was taken to the church for the deliverance session, where the pastor allegedly attempted to force himself on her at the altar, but she resisted.

Precious further alleged that she was subsequently starved for days, leaving her weak, after which the pastor overpowered her and began to have sexual intercourse with her.
She said the abuse occurred multiple times at the church and at the pastor’s poultry farm in Igboukwu, a neighbouring community in Aguata Local Government Area.
The victim alleged that the pastor deliberately isolated her by telling others to stay away from her, claiming she was possessed, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone, including his wife.
She said she had no access to a phone and could not reach her aunt, who never checked on her after leaving her in the pastor’s care.
Her ordeal came to an end about two weeks ago when SASA operatives arrested the pastor at his poultry farm following a tip-off from a community security official who had been monitoring his movements.
Precious said the operatives, numbering over 10, arrived at the farm, questioned both of them, and took them to their office in Onitsha.
She disclosed that she is currently experiencing bleeding, which she attributed to herbal concoctions allegedly given to her by the pastor in an attempt to terminate a suspected pregnancy. She said she was not taken to a hospital.
She appealed to authorities for urgent medical attention and expressed gratitude to the operatives for rescuing her.
“I had been enduring unimaginable suffering before I was rescued,” she said.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Evangelist Dozie Ezani, admitted to having sexual relations with the minor but blamed his actions on “the devil’s handiwork.”
He said the girl was initially returned to her aunt after a deliverance session but was later brought back when the aunt allegedly refused to keep her, describing her as difficult to manage.
The cleric said it was after she returned to his residence that he began having “inappropriate knowledge” of her.
When asked if he considered her age, he said he did not know what came over him.
He also admitted giving her a herbal mixture made from bitter leaf and other substances, claiming it was meant to treat a medical issue she complained about and to terminate a suspected pregnancy to avoid public shame.
Ezani, who said he is married with children, stated that his wife resides in Igboukwu where she manages his poultry farm.
He added that he was arrested at the farm and taken to the SASA office in Onitsha before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
