I Blocked Remi Tinubu From Using My Platform to ‘Cover Up’ Events in Nigeria – U.S. Broadcaster
A United States-based broadcaster, Tony Perkins, has claimed that he blocked Remi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, from using his media platform, alleging that there were attempts to downplay or cover up critical events happening in Nigeria.
Perkins made the claim during a recent broadcast, where he accused powerful political figures of seeking to control international narratives about Nigeria while serious issues persist at home.
According to Tony Perkins, his platform was established to provide uncensored discussions on governance, insecurity, economic hardship and human rights concerns affecting Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora. He said granting access to the First Lady or her representatives would have compromised the independence and credibility of his platform.
“I made it clear that my platform would not be used to sanitise or gloss over what Nigerians are going through,” Perkins said. “There are too many unresolved issues in Nigeria that require honesty, not public relations or image management.”

The broadcaster alleged that influential figures often attempt to engage foreign-based media platforms to shape global perception, especially during periods of intense criticism of the Nigerian government.
Perkins stressed that his decision was not motivated by personal bias but by a firm commitment to journalistic integrity, accountability and truth.
“This is not about personalities. It’s about principles. Nigeria is facing serious challenges, and any credible platform must be willing to confront those realities directly,” he added.
The comments have sparked widespread reactions online, with some Nigerians applauding Tony Perkins for standing his ground, while others questioned the details surrounding the alleged outreach and whether any formal request was made.
As of the time of filing this report, Remi Tinubu and the Presidency have not issued any official response to the claim.
