‘I’ll Do Everything I Can’: Asari Dokubo Declares Support for Tinubu 2027
Former Niger Delta militant leader and Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri, Asari Dokubo, has pledged to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, citing loyalty and gratitude for the President’s past support.
Dokubo made the pledge on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to his palace in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Commending Wike for the visit, Dokubo said President Bola Tinubu stood by him during one of the most difficult periods of his life, adding that it was now his turn to reciprocate the gesture.
“Like you said, my friend, everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the President, succeeds,” Dokubo said.
“Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that he succeeds.
He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to also stand by him and support him.”
Reflecting on his journey, Dokubo noted that he was not a traditional ruler when he first met Tinubu in 1992 and never imagined he would attain his current status.
Earlier, Wike explained that his visit was to appreciate the people of the community for their support and to engage them on the importance of backing Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027. He also said the visit was to wish the monarch and his people a happy New Year.
“I know that traditional rulers don’t play politics,” Wike said.
“You are my friend, and there is no way I would come to where you reside, your kingdom, without coming to greet you and say happy new year.”
