I’m now fully in charge of PDP, says Yayari
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumed another dimension on Sunday as the factional Acting National Chairman of the party, Ahmed Yayari, said he has fully assumed his position.
Newstrends reports that Yayari was appointed as the Acting National Chairman by the faction opposed to the leadership of Illiya Damagum.
In a statement on Sunday, Yayari, who said the party has failed to live up to expectation, promised that the new National Working Committee (NWC) under his leadership will act within the confines of the rule of law and constitution of the party.
“NWC under my leadership will be guided strictly by the Constitution of our Party and I will at all times be fair to all members irrespective of their status, position or state in the Party. Only this will guarantee and engender loyalty and commitment of our teeming members.

“In this regard, my primary goal, focus and mandate in the onerous assignment is to restore confidence of our members by immediately setting in motion the process to hold the long overdue National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of our Party already scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2024.
“In line with the provision of our Party’s Constitution, the North Central Zone which is constitutionally entitled to produce a replacement to serve out the tenure of the former National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu is hereby requested to urgently meet and forward its nominee to my office for necessary preparation and forwarding for consideration and approval by NEC at the October 24, 2024 meeting,” he said.
Yayari who said he was humbled by the numerous messages of solidarity, support and best wishes received from members since he was appointed Acting National Chairman, said the NWC is now fully “ready and willing to play the role of effective opposition in the quest to develop our democracy and seek for responsible and responsive government in our country.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has lifted the suspension of Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), along with several other senior party members.
This decision came after a prolonged meeting that included the state executive committee, party members of the state Assembly, and local government leaders.
The meeting primarily focused on resolving the internal conflict resulting from the suspension of key figures in the Southern Ijaw, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Yenagoa local government areas.
Those previously suspended included notable individuals like Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and Chief David Lyon, the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2019 election
Following a press conference on October 15 at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa, a communique was issued.

Signed by Chief Dennis Otiotio-Odoni, the state chairman, and Acting State Secretary Owutuamo Tamaranpreye, the statement confirmed that the suspensions were rescinded after a request from the minority caucus of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and thorough discussions within the party.
The communique outlined the party’s decision to defer the ratification of the suspensions to allow for additional consultations with key stakeholders, following recommendations from the APC caucus in the state Assembly.
Additionally, the extended executive committee and the APC Assembly Caucus condemned the recent actions of the Bayelsa Commissioner for Power, Mr. Kharin Kumoku, who reportedly led a group of individuals to attempt an attack on the APC state secretariat.
The party urged Governor Douye Diri to address the issue by cautioning the commissioner and called on both the Commissioner of Police, Francis A. Idu, and the state Director of DSS to investigate the incident.
The Bayelsa APC emphasized its dedication to democratic values and expressed its intent to resolve disputes through constructive dialogue.
The party also encouraged members and stakeholders to uphold decorum, stressing the importance of unity for the party’s success in the state.

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) have nullified the suspension of the acting National Chairman of the party, Illiya Damagum.
The governors have also nullified the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN.
Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, disclosed to journalists on Tuesday.
Bala, in the company with Damagum and other PDP stakeholders, said the status quo remains for now.
Yayari Mohammed had been named Damagum’s replacement during the split in the National Working Committee (NWC), which hit each side with suspension.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mohammed said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party appointed him to “rekindle the hope and aspirations” of party members.
He said these personal interests had been elevated above the party’s agenda and continued to affect its ability to perform effectively at the national level.
“This state of affairs continues to affect the performance and viability of our party to perform its role as expected as a platform which Nigerians have come to admire and look up to in view of the robust constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and the monumental achievements of the party in the 16 years in government, which period is referred to with nostalgia as the golden years of governance in Nigeria.”
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, desirous of revamping the party in line with the vision of its founding fathers, on Thursday, October 10, 2024 appointed me as the Acting National Chairman to lead the charge to rekindle the hope and aspiration of our teeming members especially the youths, critical stakeholders and generality of Nigerians who wish to see a political party that is ready and willing to play the role of effective opposition in the quest to develop our democracy and seek responsible and responsive government in our country.

Fresh crisis rocks NNPP, Kano SSG, commissioner suspended
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has announced the suspension of the State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and the Commissioner of transportation, Muhammad Diggol.
The State party Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, confirmed this to our reporter late Monday.
Earlier, an audio clip where he announced the suspension of the two key chieftains of the party had gone viral.
He said the duo were suspended over disloyalty and abuse of power and creating chaos in the party.

“We are announcing today that we have suspended the SSG Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and the commissioner of transportation, Muhammad Diggol over abuse of power, office and disloyalty to the party.
“We are commending the leadership of the party from their wards and the Local Government confirmed to us. They are all from Bichi north where they all came from for bringing the issue to us in written.
“In our capacity as leaders of the party, we sat and consider that this is the best decision to take until we are done investigation on the issue.”
