The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the deadline for public university admissions, shifting the date from October 31 to November 17, 2025. The decision was disclosed in a statement issued late Sunday by JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.
The extension follows the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, which had initially set October 31 as the deadline for public universities to conclude their admission processes.
Dr. Benjamin commended the commitment of public universities in working toward the original timeline, which was designed to allow other tertiary institutions—including private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions—to complete their admissions ahead of the overall closing date of December 31, 2025.

However, he noted that “emergent and compelling circumstances” necessitated the extension. Two key factors influenced the decision:
“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, 17th November, 2025,” the statement read.
JAMB emphasized that this new deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to. The Board also reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible admission process that supports national education objectives and respects institutional autonomy.
