Just in: Army kills notorious bandit Buharin, other terrorists on Kaduna-Katsina border

There was jubilation in Kaduna-Katsina border communities as news spread that the infamous terrorist Buharin Yadi, one of the deadliest bandit leaders terrorizing Northern Nigeria in the last decade, has met his bitter end at the hands of security forces.

Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, said on Thursday that the troops of Sector 6 Operation Whirl Punch rained down fire on the kingpin known as Buhari Alhaji Halidu (alias Buharin Yadi) and his cohorts, abruptly terminating their ignominious spell of terror.

“Halidu was neutralized in a fierce battle with the troops (under the coordination of their Commander, also the General Officer Commanding of One Division Nigerian Army, Major General MLD Saraso) which took place around Idasu forest at the boundaries between Giwa LGA of Kaduna State and Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State.”

“The troops began the covert operation in response to intelligence reports on terrorists’ movement from Samunaka, Saulawa area of Katsina State.”

“On advancing to Samunaka, the troops found the settlement destroyed and cattle killed, evidence of recent criminal activity by the bandits”

“A ferocious battle quickly followed, as approaching terrorists were pounded with artillery rounds at Hayin Almajiri. The troops then fought bravely through an ambush, to attain their objective. Initial assessments indicate that at least 36 bandits were eliminated in the engagement.”

“It was eventually verified that one of those neutralized was Kachalla Buharin Yadi. Kachalla Buhari Alhaji Halidu (also known as Buharin Yadi or Buhari Janar) and the brigands under his command had been unleashing terror on citizens in Kidandan/Galadimawa general areas of Giwa LGA, Sabon Birni/Kerawa general areas of Igabi LGA, other locations in nearby Sabuwa LGA of Katsina State, and indeed some parts of Niger and Zamfara States.”

“Buharin Yadi was involved in large-scale cattle rustling, arms trading and drug trafficking. He had led his gang in the pillaging of communities and the slaughter and kidnapping of thousands of citizens in Kaduna and neighboring states.”

“The merciless bandit was also known to have links with other deadly terrorist groups in the Northeast and Northwest.”

“The breakthrough brings to an end a manhunt by security forces for this terrorist, which stretched more than five years. The news of his demise spread like wildfire, triggering massive relief and widespread celebrations among locals spanning Kaduna and Katsina States.”

PAPADEF gives widows cash gift to mark 2025 IWD

The Pa. Philip Akintoye Development Foundation (PAPADEF) has given cash support of N10,000 each to widows during a special church service in Lagos to mark this year’s International Widows Day.

The thanksgiving service was held on Sunday, June 22, at Act Baptist Church, Ogudu, where dozens of widows gathered in praise and prayer.

Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Mr Akintoye Festus, said in a statement on Tuesday that the support was aimed at easing some financial burdens and showing widows that they are not alone.

“This gesture is our way of saying ‘we see you, we honour you, and we are with you.’ Widows carry a special kind of strength, and we want to stand by them not just with words, but with action,” he said.

He stressed that the N10,000 given to each widow was directly transferred to their bank accounts to ensure dignity and transparency.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Abimbola Akinyemi and Mrs Oluwayemisi Oyarinde, were full of gratitude.

“I am so happy and thankful. This money will really help me buy food items I’ve been putting off. May God bless the foundation,”Abimbola said.

Mrs Oyarinde, holding back tears, said: “It’s not just the money. It’s the fact that someone remembers us and sees us. We feel loved again.”

The presiding Pastor of the church, Rev. Adejumo Martins, also thanked the foundation for the initiative, describing it as a true act of humanitarian service.

“We appreciate PAPADEF for this show of compassion. It is rare to see such consistency in caring for widows. May God continue to bless and enlarge this foundation,” he said.

Festus used the opportunity to call on the government, religious and traditional leaders, and community members to do more in supporting widows.

He listed five key areas for urgent attention: awareness, protection of rights, empowerment, celebration of widow resilience, and an end to stigma and harmful traditional practices.

He said, “International Widows Day should not be just a date on the calendar. It should be a call to action.”

He added that PAPADEF remains committed to standing with widows through emotional support, skills training, business mentoring, legal aid, and continuous advocacy.

“This N10,000 is just the beginning. We are building something bigger — a society that cares,” he said.

The event ended with prayers for the widows and a renewed pledge by the foundation to continue providing help where it matters most.

International Widows Day is marked globally on June 23 to draw attention to the struggles of widows and promote policies that support their welfare.

P’Harcourt woman battles for life after fiancé’s brutal attack

A disturbing incident has unfolded in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where a woman, Orinemi Ayanate, was allegedly stabbed by her fiancé over a minor issue.

Ayanate is currently battling for her life in a hospital, where she has been receiving treatment for her injuries.

According to reports, Ayanate’s fiancé attacked her on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Iwofe, leaving her with severe injuries to her head and hand.

The suspect allegedly seized Ayanate’s phone, handbag, and wig before fleeing the scene. Neighbors came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital, where she has been receiving treatment.¹

Ayanate’s friend, Mr. Promise Wosu Junior, popularly known as Wene Port Harcourt, confirmed that she has been given four packs of blood due to excessive bleeding.

Wosu described the incident as an extreme case of domestic violence, stating that Ayanate’s fiancé has a history of abusing her.

“Ayanate is a very good friend of mine, and I’m deeply concerned about her well-being,” Wosu said.
