Lagos Fire Service Battles Blaze at 25-Storey Great Nigeria Insurance House
Pandemonium broke out on Tuesday evening after a fire outbreak engulfed parts of the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a 25-storey building on Martins Street, Lagos Island, forcing emergency responders into swift action.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was reported at about 4:41 p.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Dolphin fire stations, with additional support from the Sari Iganmu station and the Alausa headquarters. Firefighters reportedly arrived at the scene within 12 minutes, at approximately 4:53 p.m.

According to the fire service, the blaze originated on the fifth floor of the high-rise building and spread downward, affecting several sections up to the fifth floor of the structure. The building is largely used as a warehouse for clothing materials, alongside corporate offices and retail shops.
As of the time of filing this report, no casualties had been recorded, while firefighters continued intensive firefighting operations to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the building.
Confirming the incident, the Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said emergency crews were still battling the blaze and that all necessary measures had been deployed to bring the situation under control. She added that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
