N30,000 permit for borehole drilling in Oyo unacceptable — Association

NATIONAL President of the Association of Water and Borehole Drillers, Mr Micheal Ale has called for the urgent abolition of N30,000 as permit fee for bore drilling in Oyo State.

Ale who described the newly introduced policy in the state as not only obnoxious but a deliberate attempt by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government to worsen the poverty stricken condition of Oyo people.

The National President in a statement at the weekend  said the rising cost of living ocassioned by the skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel, gas and other commodities were already making life difficult for the people and they do not need any other hostile policies.

He advised Governor Makinde to cancel the collection of N30,000 permits in the best interest of the citizenry, noting that  government was supposed to implement policies that are people-oriented policies and not hardship for them.

He advised strongly that the government ought to encourage the populace to drill their boreholes in their quest for water, as many sub- nationals have abandoned water projects at the expense of roads and other physical infrastructures which appear better and more acceptable to people.

“Several Nigerians are left to their fate when it comes to the issue of water supply, especially the good people of Oyo state in the south western part of the country. “

“The unfortunate scenario is the issue of taxes and the levies on citizens before they can assess the natural resources graciously given by God, because government has failed in their responsibility to provide pipe borne water system.”
