The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, recording an improved overall performance by candidates nationwide.
Announcing the release on Tuesday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the council, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, said the examination was successfully conducted and marked within schedule.
According to NECO, the 2025 SSCE External examination took place between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while marking was completed from January 5 to January 21, 2026.

Out of 96,979 candidates who registered for the examination, 95,160 candidates sat for the papers. The results show that 71.63 per cent of candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, a key requirement for admission into tertiary institutions.
The council also disclosed that 86.26 per cent of candidates scored five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics, indicating a generally strong performance across subjects.
A closer look at subject performance revealed that 78.32 per cent of candidates earned credit and above in English Language, while 91.35 per cent achieved the same in Mathematics, reflecting improved outcomes in core subjects.
However, NECO reported an increase in cases of examination malpractice. A total of 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences, higher than the figure recorded in the previous year. As a result, five supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting, while four examination centres were flagged for whole-centre malpractice.
Prof. Ibrahim-Wushishi reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations, warning that the council would continue to apply strict sanctions against all forms of malpractice.
