Nigerian Navy Names Captain Folorunsho as New Naval Spokesperson

The Nigerian Navy has appointed Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information, making him the service’s official spokesperson.

The appointment was approved by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, and Captain Folorunsho formally assumed duty on Tuesday. He takes over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who has been redeployed to command Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Navy’s foremost operational base.

Captain Folorunsho is a member of the 50 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and was commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and has earned several postgraduate degrees in war studies, defence and strategic studies, energy management, and national security from institutions in Pakistan, Sweden, and the United States.

Before his appointment, he served as Assistant Director, Plans/CNS Directive at Naval Headquarters, and previously worked as Chief Instructor at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji. He has also held various command, operational, and instructional positions across ships and shore establishments, gaining wide experience in maritime security and naval operations.

The Navy described Captain Folorunsho as a highly decorated officer, having received several commendations for excellence in service and leadership. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the Navy’s strategic communication, public engagement, and information management.
