No Casualties Recorded After U.S. Airstrike in Sokoto Community, Authorities Confirm

Authorities in Sokoto State have confirmed that no casualties were recorded following a reported U.S. airstrike in Jabo community, located in Tambuwal Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Area Commander overseeing Tambuwal LGA, Muhammed Augie, who was present at the scene, declined to comment directly on the incident. However, he advised the District Head of Jabo, Alhaji Abubakar Jabo, to caution residents against visiting the strike location or handling debris and fragments from the explosion.

Security sources disclosed that some residents had reportedly picked up fragments from the site, largely due to economic hardship and poverty affecting the area.

The Commandant of Base 15 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit in Sokoto, Hassan Jatau, confirmed that the affected area had been cordoned off to prevent possible injuries from unexploded materials. He emphasised the need for sustained public sensitisation.

“We were very lucky there is no casualty, and no one was hurt as a result of the bombing episode,” Jatau said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the airstrike. However, the Deputy Governor, Engineer Idris Mohammed Gobir, was reportedly scheduled to visit the affected community and brief the public.

Authorities confirmed that the airstrike did not damage nearby residential buildings, but security agencies remain on ground to monitor the area and ensure residents’ safety.

Both the police and military have urged residents to remain vigilant and comply strictly with safety advisories, warning that bomb fragments or unexploded ordnance could pose serious risks if mishandled.
