NYSC Lawyer Found Alive Days After Being Declared Missing
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and lawyer Eunice Ameh has been found safe in Abuja days after she was declared missing, bringing relief to her family, colleagues, and members of the legal community. Her disappearance had sparked widespread concern and prompted a police investigation before she was eventually located alive and unharmed.
Ameh was last seen on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at about 5:40 p.m. after closing from her workplace at Blades and Butchers Ltd on Lake Chad Crescent in Maitama, Abuja. Family sources said she had recently resumed work as a Sales Manager at the company, just two weeks into the role, while also serving under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to her family, she was on her way home to Life Camp, where she lives in a corps members’ lodge, when she was last seen. Her sudden disappearance shortly after leaving work triggered alarm among relatives and colleagues, who were unable to reach her.

Following the incident, the matter was reported to the Maitama Police Division, while NYSC authorities were also formally informed. Security agencies reportedly began preliminary efforts to trace her movements, as family members and friends raised concerns over her sudden disappearance and lack of communication.
Before she was found, her family described the situation as emotionally distressing, saying they were deeply worried and overwhelmed while hoping for a breakthrough in the search.
The case also attracted attention from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which issued a strong public statement calling for urgent action and her safe return. NBA President Afam Osigwe described her disappearance as painful for the legal profession, stressing that such incidents affect the entire legal community.
Ameh was eventually found safe days later, bringing relief to her family, colleagues, and the legal community. However, details about where she was found and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance have not been made public.
Security sources say investigations are still ongoing to determine what led to her disappearance, including whether it involved voluntary absence or other undisclosed factors. At the time of reporting, neither the police nor NYSC has issued a full official explanation of the incident.
