Oluremi Tinubu Donates 50 CNG Buses, 30 Tricycles to OAU
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and 30 tricycles to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, in Osun State, in a move aimed at addressing transportation challenges faced by students and staff. The vehicles were officially unveiled at the university’s sports arena and immediately deployed for campus operations to enhance movement within the institution.
The ceremony attracted several prominent dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Osun State First Lady Titilayo Adeleke, Kafayat Oyetola, and wives of several state governors, highlighting the importance of the intervention for one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire described the donation as timely and impactful, noting that it would significantly improve mobility across the campus while reducing commuting stress for students, staff, and visitors. He praised the First Lady for her continued support toward the growth and development of the university, describing the gesture as a major boost to the academic community.
Also reacting, OAU Students’ Union President, Oluwatodimu David, welcomed the initiative, stating that the buses and tricycles would substantially ease transportation difficulties and enhance daily campus life. He further acknowledged Tinubu’s previous contributions to the university, including beautification projects and the renovation of the Amphitheatre, portraying her as a consistent supporter of the institution.
The donation is expected to strengthen the university’s internal transport system while promoting a more efficient and environmentally friendly mobility structure through the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles, widely regarded as cleaner energy alternatives. The intervention also aligns with broader efforts to improve learning conditions and overall campus experience for students.
