Popular media entrepreneur and broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat has officially declared his governorship ambition for the 2027 Oyo State election, choosing the Accord Party as his platform. The announcement was made during a high-profile event at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, which drew thousands of supporters and political figures.
Hamzat, who is also the Executive Chairman of Agidigbo FM, said his decision to run stems from a “divine calling” and the persistent encouragement of Oyo residents seeking accountable and people-centered leadership. The declaration event featured public endorsements from notable political figures, including Adebukola Ajaja, an aide to Governor Seyi Makinde, who described Hamzat as a “dedicated activist and true Omoluabi.” The Accord Party leadership presented Hamzat with his membership card, marking his official induction into the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
Hamzat joins a growing list of Oyo State governorship aspirants, including former Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan and candidates from the PDP and APC, intensifying competition as political activities ramp up ahead of the elections. Analysts say Hamzat’s media influence and grassroots appeal could significantly shape the dynamics of the upcoming campaign.
