Osinbajo: Churches focus on prosperity discouraging hard work, impending Nigeria’s progress
Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has taken a swipe at churches leaders preaching and focusing on prosperity, saying this has done a lot of harm to the country.
He noted that the Nigerian church had eschewed the propagation of the value of hard work and unity to focus on preaching of prosperity.
He spoke during a lecture at the 68th Anniversary and 58th Annual Convention of The Gospel Faith Mission International, GOFAMINT, at the weekend.
He however declared that Nigeria would rise again if the church would return to preaching the values of hard work.

He urged the church to return to its root and preach messages that inspire people and spur them to become agent of positive change.
“For too long, our churches have been caught up in the pursuit of personal prosperity and material wealth, neglecting the true calling of the gospel to promote peace, unity, and the holistic development of our society.
“If we truly want to see Nigeria rise again and fulfil its immense potential, the church must return to its roots, preaching the values of hard work, compassion, and service to the community.
“It is only through this shift in focus that we can inspire our people to become agents of positive change, rather than mere consumers of the prosperity gospel,” Osinbajo stated.
Osinbajo warned that when preachers place premium on benefits and rewards, especially Christians in government and position of authority, it could make national development suffer because the people’s mind would be soiled and unable to do what is right.
