Police React After Unknown Gunmen Attack Officers in Delta [VIDEO]
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a strong reaction following a deadly attack on its officers by unknown gunmen in Delta State, vowing to track down and prosecute those responsible for what it described as a cowardly assault on law enforcement personnel.
The incident occurred along the Akukwu-Igbo–Ugbolu axis in Oshimili North Local Government Area, where police officers were conducting a routine stop-and-search operation. According to police accounts, the officers were suddenly ambushed by armed men, who opened fire, leading to a brief but intense exchange.
During the attack, one police officer was seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. A viral video from the scene, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows a damaged police patrol vehicle and the injured officer lying on the ground, triggering public outrage and concern over rising insecurity.

Reacting, the Delta State Police Command confirmed the attack and said the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola immediately ordered the deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and patrol units to the affected communities and surrounding areas.
In an official statement, the command condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as an unprovoked act of violence against officers lawfully discharging their duties. The police assured residents that the incident would not be allowed to go unanswered.
The command disclosed that swift follow-up operations led to the arrest of several suspects, some of whom are already providing useful information to investigators. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other fleeing members of the gang, while security presence has been intensified to prevent further attacks.
Police authorities warned that attacks on security personnel will be met with decisive force, stressing that anyone involved in targeting officers or disrupting public peace will face the full weight of the law.
The Delta State Police Command also called on residents to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and volunteer credible information that could aid the ongoing investigation, assuring the public of their safety as operations continue.
