The House of Representatives has summoned EFCC Chairman, Nigerian Correctional Service Comptroller General, Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan, and all officers involved in the prosecution of Bobrisky.

This was contained in a letter written by the Lead Chairman of the joint committee, Jon Ginger Onwusibe to parties on Friday over the disturbing allegation of corruption against the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC, the Nigeria Correctional Services.

Others invited are ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman the Controller of Corrections Lagos Command as of then, Ja’afaru Ahmed Secretary Board, Micheal Anugwa DCC in charge of medium Security, Sikiru Adekunle DCC in charge of Maximum Security, Bobrisky and VeryDarkman.

Background:

In April, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Bobrisky on six counts of money laundering and Naira mutilation.

During his trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro dismissed the money laundering charges (counts five and six) but sentenced the social media personality to six months in prison for Naira abuse.

However, a little over a month after his release, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, posted a leaked audio recording on Instagram, in which Bobrisky narrated the events that transpired during his prison term.

In the audio, Bobrisky can be heard discussing with a friend how EFCC officials allegedly extorted N15 million from him to drop the money laundering charges.

VeryDarkMan explained that he released the audio after Bobrisky refused to repay N4 million borrowed from one of the people he approached to raise the N15 million.

On Tuesday night, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, in a statement obtained by this newspaper, ordered an immediate investigation into the bribery allegations.

Mr. Olukoyede also called for Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan to report to the EFCC’s Lagos office to assist in the inquiry.

In addition, Vanguard reported that the Minister of Interior has launched a separate investigation into Bobrisky’s claim that he bribed prison officials to avoid being jailed during his sentence.

Those that will rescue Nigeria not yet born – Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe, a staunch supporter of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), has alleged that those who will rescue Nigeria have not been born.

Igbokwe, one of those who campaigned actively for Tinubu in the buildup to the election, said this while commenting on the cost of living crisis.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Igbokwe lamented that a bag of rice now costs N100,000.

“With all the rice mills we have in Nigeria, my wife just told me that a bag of rice is now ₦100k plus. Without sounding immodest, I am constrained to say that the men and women that will rescue this country from self-inflicted pains and tears are not born yet,” he wrote.

Recently, Igbokwe, who served under virtually every Lagos governor since 1999, has been critical of some policies of the Tinubu administration, marking a departure of what he stood for.

Two weeks ago, he lamented over the hike in electricity tarrif, asking Tinubu to look into it.

In a post on his Facebook page three weeks ago, Igbokwe lamented that N20,000 worth of units only lasted him for just a day.

He said: “PBAT, please look into the new electricity tariff in Nigeria. It will kill businesses if the government does not act as quickly as possible. I have a small office in Surulere with about about 7 units of AC.

“We used to buy 300 plus units for N20,0000. Yesterday we bought N20,000 worth of units and it lasted for just one day. They call it band A group. I pray that we review this.”

Nigeria not ready for Obi kind of politics – Obidigbo, says Igbo politicians mere breadwinners

Nigeria not ready for Obi kind of politics – Obidigbo, says Igbo politicians mere breadwinners

Nigeria is not ready for Peter Obi’s kind of politics, President of Osisioma Foundation, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has said.

The elder statesman also says politicians from the South-East part of Nigeria have been cowed to become mere breadwinners.

He made the remarks in a statement on Friday while reacting to the outcome of the Edo governorship election.

He noted that the Nigeria system had been skewed against those who insist on doing things the right way like Peter Obi.

He urged the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party to channel his energy into something more productive.

The Osisioma Foundation leader said the outcome of the Edo State governorship was a veiled message to Obi that Nigeria is not yet ready for his kind of politics of nation building.

According to him, a nation is doomed when politicians feel no qualms to bribe, conspire and steal elections.

Obidigbo said he was surprised to hear some commentators chiding Obi for supporting Olumide Akpata, who was accused of breaching the zoning arrangement in Edo State, not minding the democratic inclination of the former LP presidential candidate.

He wondered why those that criticized Obi for supporting Akpata were silent in 2023 when it was obvious that the power rotation favoured the South-East.

He said, “As a friend of Peter Obi for very many years, I urge him to stop further efforts of trying to improve Nigeria’s leadership recruitment process. He is too decent for the kind of duplicity being played in Nigeria.

“My take is that Peter Obi should channel his vast energy and wide acceptance towards the liberation of his suffering people, rather than waste them on an ungrateful and unreasonably antagonistic people. Enough of these pretences Obi has too much to offer to a system that is so locked in filth.”

Obidigbo said the Igbo were usually frustrated by the Nigerian system upholding double standards and conspiracy.

He also chided most Igbo politicians who he noted had become frightened so much so that none of them is bold enough to speak out about the growing injustice and maltreatment of their people in the Nigeria project.

He said, “These Igbo politicians have become mere breadwinners. They are not representing anybody except their bellies and narrow political interests. Look at the case of Nnamdi Kanu, he has been jailed through the backdoor just for speaking up against the growing injustice against his people.

“If things are done the proper way in the country and Igbo not visited with hate and gang up, Kanu would not be agitating. His quest for referendum is because Nigeria has been rubbing salt into injury of the Igbo. What nation does not respect its laws?”

Some Tinubu’s appointees only interested in their pockets – Buba Galadima

Some Tinubu’s appointees only interested in their pockets – Buba Galadima

A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s planned cabinet reshuffle, arguing that the move holds no significance for Nigerians facing harsh economic conditions.

Last week, the presidency announced that Tinubu is preparing to reshuffle his cabinet, although Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, did not provide a specific timeline for the action. “I don’t have any timeline. The President has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet and will do it. I don’t know whether he wants to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it,” Onanuga told State House Correspondents in Abuja.

However, Galadima downplayed the potential reshuffle, asserting that Nigerians are more concerned about their daily struggles. “That [planned cabinet reshuffle] has nothing to do with me or any Nigerian. What is of importance to all of us is bringing down the harsh conditions of living and the buck stops only on the table of one man,” the NNPP chieftain said during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

“That is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. No amount of reshuffling can make a difference. As far as that team is only ‘job for the boys,’ nothing will come out of it.”

Galadima also stressed that the president, like any leader, is ultimately responsible for the performance of his cabinet. “Anybody that calls himself president or governor” is accountable for their cabinet’s actions, he noted.

Accusing some of Tinubu’s appointees of self-interest, Galadima added, “He should be told that some of his appointees are more interested in their pockets than service delivery.”

While Galadima admitted to having higher expectations for Tinubu when he took office, he expressed disappointment in the president’s current performance.

“I expected him to do better than this; and to hit the ground running,” he said. Galadima also called on the president to urgently address the country’s foreign exchange crisis, which has seen the naira continue to decline in value.
