Shehu Sani speaks on Trump’s threat of Third World War should he lose US election
Nigerian Senator Shehu Sani has taken to Twitter to criticize the apparent double standards in how the United States and the European Union respond to political threats. Sani’s tweet comes in the wake of recent comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, warning that if Vice President Kamala Harris wins the November 2024 presidential election, it could lead to global conflict.
According to Fox News report, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump claimed that a Harris victory could escalate the Israel-Hamas conflict into a broader regional war, potentially leading to a third World War. “If we don’t win, you’re going to end up with major wars in the Middle East. And maybe a third World War,” Trump said.
In response to these statements, Shehu Sani tweeted, “When Trump reportedly said if he loses the election there will be war; If that statement was made by an African candidate, the US and EU would have imposed a travel ban and sanctions.”

Sani’s comment highlights the perceived double standards in international diplomacy. While Trump’s statements have been met with domestic debate, Sani argues that an African leader making similar threats would face severe repercussions from the international community, including travel bans and sanctions from the US and EU.
This criticism resonates with many who see a pattern of unequal treatment by Western nations towards political figures from different parts of the world. Sani’s remarks underline the need for consistency and fairness in the global diplomatic arena.
The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu, which marked their first encounter since Trump left office in 2020, focused on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Netanyahu presented Trump with a photograph of children still held captive by Hamas, emphasizing the dire situation in Gaza. Trump expressed a commitment to addressing the issue, calling the photograph “very moving.”
