Taraba Governor Orders Closure of Boarding in Secondary Schools Amid Rising Insecurity
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has directed all public and private secondary schools in the state to immediately discontinue boarding services following a surge in school kidnappings and nationwide insecurity.
The directive, announced on Friday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, comes in response to the increasing risks faced by boarding students due to recent abductions in Niger and Kebbi states.
“All secondary schools are to operate strictly as day schools until further notice. Principals and school proprietors are mandated to deboard all students without delay,” the statement said.

Dr. Godwin emphasized that the decision is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding students and preventing potential security breaches amid rising tensions in the region. She also reassured parents that the government is working closely with security agencies to restore calm.
School administrators have been urged to fully comply with the directive and strengthen surveillance measures within their premises to ensure student safety.
The move follows Friday’s kidnapping of students from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, Niger State, and earlier abductions of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State, intensifying concerns over the safety of schoolchildren across northern Nigeria.
Governor Kefas’ directive underscores the urgent need for proactive measures to address insecurity in schools and protect students from further attacks.
