US to Deport 79 Nigerians on Criminal List Amid Immigration Crackdown
The United States has announced plans to deport 79 Nigerians identified among the “worst-of-the-worst” criminal offenders, marking a major step in a broader US immigration crackdown targeting non-citizens with criminal records.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) disclosed that the Nigerians facing deportation have been convicted of serious crimes, including fraud, drug trafficking, assault, manslaughter, robbery, and other violent and non-violent offences. The move is part of ongoing efforts by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to prioritise the removal of individuals deemed a threat to public safety.

Officials said the 79 Nigerians come from different parts of the United States and include names such as Boluwaji Akingunsoye, Ejike Asiegbunam, Emmanuel Mayegun Adeola, Bamidele Bolatiwa, and Ifeanyi Nwaozomudoh, whose convictions span a range of serious criminal activities.
The deportation campaign has triggered concern within Nigerian communities in the US. Some Nigerians are reportedly taking pre-emptive steps to return home, amid fears of immigration raids and enforcement sweeps by federal authorities.
Experts say the action reflects the current US administration’s stricter immigration policies, which have also seen increased visa revocations and tighter enforcement measures targeting foreign nationals with criminal histories.
The deportation of these 79 Nigerians underscores the growing collaboration between US immigration authorities and the justice system to ensure public safety and compliance with federal laws. It also serves as a stern reminder for Nigerian citizens residing in the US to adhere to legal requirements and avoid criminal activities.
