Zamfara lawmaker, over 1,000 PDP members defect to APC

A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Maharazu Salisu Faru, representing Maradun II Constituency, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged injustice and marginalisation by the PDP leadership.

Mr Salisu announced his defection on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Gusau, accompanied by all PDP ward executives from the five wards in his constituency and over 1,000 supporters.

Speaking at the event, the lawmaker said the decision to leave the PDP was borne out of frustration over the party’s failure to reward the loyalty and support of his constituents during the 2023 general elections.

“Despite our total support for the PDP-led government, Maradun II was sidelined in appointments and recognition. No single position was allocated to our people,” he said.

Mr Salisu lamented that he had been the only PDP figure left in the area attending to the needs of constituents, without any dividends of democracy reaching them.

“In line with this, I, Maharazu Salisu Faru, along with all PDP officials and over 1,000 constituents from Maradun II, hereby announce our defection to the APC for the progress of our people,” he declared.

Among the defectors were ward chairmen Ahmad Lawal (Magami), Lawal Tsibiri (Tsibiri), Sanusi Ahmad (Gidangoga), and Shehu DanAbu (Maya). A senior PDP chieftain from the area, Salis Dodo, also joined the APC.

Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman, Tukur Danfulani, welcomed them into the party and assured them of equal treatment and full integration.

“This is just the beginning. More members from PDP and other parties will join the APC before the year ends,” Danfulani said.
