African entertainers mourn as AMAA founder, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, dies
The Nigerian and African entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning as Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), is dead.
A statement from her family confirmed this on Tuesday morning but it did not disclose the cause of her death.
The Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe clan described the late filmmaker as an epitome of creative transcendence, an outstanding personality, trailblazer, titan, pathfinder, go-getter, humanitarian, one-of-a-kind creative, and visionary leader in the film and television industry.
“Peace left indelible imprints on the sands of time. We as a family and clan will continue to do all that is necessary to ensure that her legacy lives on,” the statement read.
The statement added that the Africa Movie Academy Awards and the Africa Film Academy, along with their training programmes across Nigeria and the African continent will carry on seamlessly the institutions she set up and worked for over the years with the support of the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation, other institutions and government agencies.
Peace reportedly died at St. Nicolas Hospital, Lagos after being in a coma since Saturday.
While colleagues and close friends, some of whom went to see her at hospital would not believe news of her demise, maintaining that she was merely in the ICU, notable movie maker, Zik Zulu broke the news.
“Our President, Peace, has passed. As at Saturday, she was reported to be in coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace, he writes on a Nollywood platform.
She would be remembered as one of those who shaped the face of the new Nollywood
Peace Anyiam-Osigwe was not only the Founder of AMAA, she was also the President of the Association of Movie Producers and one of the most prominent figures in Nollywood.

The award certificate issued by Brad Raffensperger, Secretary of State of the State of Georgia, reads: “May this outstanding citizen be offered every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in her travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever she may hereafter travel or reside. Thank you for your service to our state.”
A female Senator from Georgia, who presented the award, praised Helen Paul, who had recently completed training as Substitute Teacher, ‘as an asset to the people of Georgia’.

She stated, “Everybody is touched by a professor or someone who creates an atmosphere for learning. Thank you so much for being a public servant to a point that you pour out so much to educate people.” Prof Helen, an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ambassador, earned the award shortly after joining a Nigerian delegation to observe the US presidential election won by former president Donald Trump.
Prince Ero, the CEO of Waterlight Initiative, was also part of the team.

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe has shared insights into her decision to marry popular movie marketer Kazim Adeoti, also known as Adekaz.
Speaking as a guest on Nollywood on Radio, Aigbe revealed that having a partner within the entertainment industry was a significant factor in her choice.
“One of the reasons I married him is that we’re both in the same industry,” Aigbe explained. “Together, we’re building a production empire. I just felt I needed someone in the industry to collaborate with, and it’s a good thing that he understands it too. Combining our strengths, the future looks promising.

Aigbe’s 2023 cinema movie, Ada Omo Daddy, has already showcased the synergy between her and Adeoti, marking her successful cinema debut. Reflecting on the project’s reception, she said, “The feedback was amazing. I was a bit nervous as it was my first cinema debut, and there was heavy competition from established names in the cinema sector. But I was confident because I knew I had a sellable product.”
Aigbe also added that her intention is to be on all platforms she can make money from.
“I wont just be on cinemas I will be on all paltforms I can make money from”
