Manchester United receive boost in £130M-rated Osimhen chase

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has hinted they will not go after Victor Osimhen this summer, in a big boost for Manchester United’s hopes of signing the striker.
The 24-year-old has been a key part of Napoli’s Serie A success this season, scoring 23 league goals as Luciano Spalletti’s side wrapped up their first Scudetto in 33 years earlier this month.
United have prioritised finding a new striker since losing Cristiano Ronaldo in November, and have been linked with Osimhen for months.
Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis maintains the Nigeria international will not be leaving the club this summer and the player himself has played down talk of a move, but the Red Devils believe he will be available for around £130 million.
Chelsea are also interested in Osimhen and may be hoping to edge United with a partial swap deal involving Christian Pulisic, but Kahn’s comments suggest Bayern are not in the race for his signature.
‘When it’s about such a fee, we have to ask the question: does the player give you a guarantee for this money?’ he told SportBILD. ‘That would definitely be a big risk.’

If the German giants have dropped out of the race to sign Osimhen, it could be another sign of their decline as a major force in European football.
They seem unable to compete with rivals such as Real Madrid and Manchester City to bring in the biggest transfers as they are not believed to be a serious player in the hunt for Jude Bellingham, and were comfortably beaten by Pep Guardiola’s side in this year’s Champions League quarter final.
Bayern were able to sign Sadio Mane from Liverpool last summer, but he has struggled to hit his best form and scored just seven league goals.
United are also looking at Tottenham’s Harry Kane as a potential option up front, although the striker recently claimed he wants to stay at the club.
After looking comfortable in their top four standing a week ago, pressure has started to build around the Red Devils after they lost both of their last two games.
Successive 1-0 losses to Brighton and West Ham have cut their lead over fifth place Liverpool to just one point, albeit with a game in hand.
Jurgen Klopp’s side appear to have found form at the right time and have won six in a row ahead of their final three games against Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton.
United’s run-in looks straightforward on paper with games against Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham, and they will be buoyed by playing three of those games at Old Trafford.
Their trip to Bournemouth on May 20 could be a tough test for a side that has won just seven away games in the league all season.

EPL: Aaron Ramsdale to join Arsenal’s rival, agrees deal

Barring any last minute changes, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, will leave the club after three years.

Ramsdale, who has fallen down the pecking order at the north London’s club, will be plying his trade with Arsenal’s rival, Newcastle United, next season.

Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal from Sheffield United for £24 million in 2021, is poised to join Newcastle during the summer transfer window.

He established himself as the club’s first-choice keeper, making 78 appearances over his first two seasons.

However, his position came under threat following David Raya’s loan arrival from Brentford.

This season, Ramsdale has had little playing time, featuring in just six Premier League games under Mikel Arteta.

With Raya expected to secure a permanent move to Arsenal, the club is reportedly open to offers for Ramsdale, who still has two years left on his contract.

Newcastle have emerged as the frontrunners to secure Ramsdale’s services.

According to Sky Sports’ James Green, the 25-year-old goalkeeper has agreed to a deal that will see him move to St James’ Park.

La Liga President confirms Mbappe to Real Madrid move

La Liga president Javier Tebas says Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe will join Real Madrid next season.

The 25-year-old France captain announced last week he is leaving PSG at the end of his contract this summer, without specifying his destination, and Madrid are poised to sign him after years of failed attempts.

“He’s Madrid’s next season, yes,” Tebas told Argentine daily sports newspaper Ole on Monday. “If they’ve signed a five-year deal, he has five seasons of opportunity (to win the Champions League).”

Mbappe is set to join a star-studded Madrid team led by Brazil’s Vinicius Junior and England international Jude Bellingham.

Los Blancos strolled to the Spanish title and are in the Champions League final at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

”(Mbappe) is one of the best players in the world, but Vinicius and Bellingham are there too, Madrid will have a great squad,” continued Tebas. “But that does not guarantee you will win leagues.”

Mbappe is PSG’s all-time record scorer with 256 goals, having joined the club from Monaco in 2017 for 180 million euros ($194 million).

With PSG he won six French league titles but failed to earn Champions League glory, finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich in 2020.

By joining record 14-time winners Real Madrid, Mbappe would increase his chances of finally earning club football’s most prestigious trophy.
