BET awards: As Nigerian superstars grab nominations, Drake, GloRilla lead

Multi-platinum performer, Drake, will be heading to the 2023 edition of BET Awards with seven nominations.
The Black culture’s biggest night event holding in Los Angeles will be aired live on Sunday, June 25.
Four Nigerian superstars have also been nominated in some categories.
Leading the pack is the acclaimed Burna Boy, who has secured multiple nominations, while Ayra Starr, Asake, and Tems have one each.


Drake’s seven nominations are in the Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best Male R&B/ Pop Artist, Best Group with 21 Savage, and Album of the Year for, Her Loss.
GloRilla, best-known for “Tomorrow 2” with Cardi B and “ Leave the Club” featuring Lil Durk, is the most nominated female with her name in six categories. At the 2022 awards, the spit-fire rapper took home Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist of the Year.
21 Savage and Lizzo are trailing closely behind with five nods each. Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Ice Spice, SZA, and more have received top honours.
Burna Boy’s nominations are Male Artist R&B/Pop Artist, Video Director of the Year, and Best International Act.
Tems received recognition for Best Female Artist and Best Collaboration for her contribution to Future’s track ‘Wait For U’.  Ayra Starr and Asake make their debut on the nominations list with their nods for Best International Act and Best New International Act, respectively.

Sanwo-Olu appoints KWAM1’S daughter as aide

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has appointed Basirat Damilola Marshall as the Senior Special Assistant on Tourism.

Damilola Marshall, the daughter of Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall popularly known as KWAM1, disclosed this on her Instanstory on Instagram Thursday.

Her appointment has been attracting congratulatory messages from Nigerians.

In a recent viral video, KWAM1, during a performance at the coronation and birthday reception of Oba Sikirullah Apena on Thursday, thanked Sanwo-Olu for appointing his daughter into his cabinet.

The fuji singer noted that it was his daughter, Damilola, who asked him to publicly thank the governor for her appointment.

She posted a flier with the logo of the Lagos State Government on her Instastory with, “Contraulations! Barrister Damilola Basirat Ayinde Marshall Esq on being appointed as SSA to the Governor of Lagos on Tourism.”

Congratulating her on the appointment, a Nigerian, Olanrewaju-Smart Wasiu, wrote, “Congratulations Barr. @damimarshall_ on your appointment as the Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism. This is a deserving recognition for your hard work and contributions to our party”, to which she responded by saying “Thank you, sir.”

Another person, Balogun Basia wrote, “Please, join me in congratulating my friend K1 and the entire family on the appointment of my daughter Barrister Basirat Damilola Marshall as the SSA to the governor of Lagos State on Tourism. Damilola, this shall be the beginning of many good things that will come your way and that of your siblings Insha Allah, Alaumoh Amin.”

BREAKING: Popular Gospel singer Morenikeji ‘Egbin Orun’ is dead

Popular Gospel singer Morenikeji Adeleke, also known as Egbin Orun, is dead.

Her death was confirmed in an Instagram post by her colleague Esther Igbekele.

The gospel singer expressed shock and sadness, noting Egbin Orun’s sudden departure without bidding farewell.

According to her, the two had recently spoken, unaware of the impending tragedy.

Igbekele praised Egbin Orun’s beauty, kindness, and strong support for her ministry.

She wrote, “I got home from my program to hear about this great loss.. Prophetess Morenikeji Egbin Orun you left without saying goodbye.. We spoke together last week not knowing you are about to embark on a journey to the great beyond.. You are such a beautiful and kind hearted woman and a very good supporter of my ministry. I am deeply saddened with your demise but God knows best. You will be greatly missed and your good deeds will continue to linger in our hearts. Ah Egbin Orun. Good night! Keep resting in the bosom of Christ.. Ah Gone too soon..Yeeee “.

The cause of her death remains undisclosed and no official statement has been issued.
