Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw by Leeds as Reds Miss Chance to Cement Top-Four Spot
Liverpool Held to Goalless Draw by Leeds as Reds Miss Chance to Cement Top-Four Spot
Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw by Leeds United at Anfield, with the Reds’ lack of firepower preventing them from securing a vital win to strengthen their position in the Premier League top four.
Manager Arne Slot’s side extended their unbeaten run to nine games, but Liverpool’s inability to break down a well-organised Leeds defence meant they were forced to settle for a point. The draw leaves the Reds three points clear of Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for next season’s Champions League qualification.

Leeds United, who made four changes with an eye on their upcoming clash with Manchester United, comfortably held off Liverpool. Notably, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was left on the bench but came on late and nearly scored, only to be flagged offside after poking the ball past goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool were without Mohamed Salah due to the Africa Cup of Nations and Alexander Isak because of injury. The absence of last season’s top scorers was felt as the Reds rarely threatened, with Hugo Ekitike squandering their best chance when he miscued a header from Jeremie Frimpong’s cross early in the first half.
The draw marks a stark contrast to the 3-3 thriller between the sides just over three weeks ago, highlighting the defensive organisation of Leeds boss Daniel Farke, whose team is now seven points clear of the relegation zone after a six-game unbeaten run.
